Landon Donovan interested in England?

Maybe US fans shouldn't slight Donovan for staying in the MLS rather than going abroad to play. He is dedicated to raising the level of competition in the MLS and he seems to be comfortable with his lifestyle out in sunny California.

I didn't miss your point at all PF. I was only agreeing with the one part I quoted and not necessarily the whole post otherwise I would have quoted the entire post.

Is it possible to be accused of being overrated so many times that you actually become underrated as a result?

I think it is. There were a lot of posts on this site alone wondering if there was still a starting place for LD on the USMNT prior to the recent friendlies and I am sure he proved that he makes a big difference when he is on the pitch in the match against Argentina.

Landon's got a ton of pace and he can finish, but he also has the ability to get lost in games. He hasn't done it in the recent games i've seen, but I have a feeling he's like the Red Sox pre-2005, you don't know when he'll implode but it'll happen eventually.

BarryP, I'm certainly one of those. I low-rated Donovan -- especially for his club side for quite a while. But when we began our friendlies in January, I saw a spark in Donovan I hadn't seen in a while. He was tremendous in all the Internationals in which he played, and his club form is stunning. He's more aggressive and imposes his will much more. That combative stance that used to show up primarily when the USMNT was playing Mexico has been there in every match I've seen him play in 2008.

I personally think all of it stems from The Gals landing Beckham. I think Donovan looked at it as an opportunity to kick his game up a couple of notches. If he can maintain this level, he's going to be a dominant player in whichever league he plays. Mind, I still think he's an arrogant asshole, but he shares that attribute with all talented and famous twenty-something millionaires on the planet.

For a conservative hack, that is a pretty open-minded and dare I say liberal view.

Perhaps it is my competitive nature (and McBride's and Sherringham's and many, many others), but you push yourself to the highest level you can achieve while still in the game. Get your place in the Outback after. Playing footy is not an extended vacation.

I can't predict the future, but I think Donovan will have quite a bit of regret later in life.

It's actually the TRUE LIBERAL point of view. Everyone who has a chance, should make up their own minds what to do. Not be told what they can say or think, or where they should play.
Exactly... and if he does regret and blames someone other than himself... then we'll have a clue on his political leanings, as well.
