After being a great factor in our staying up last season, why have the club taken him off the squad page? I haven't seen any official message about him. What disrespectful treatment to a fine player.

    RE: Where

I'm pretty sure his contract expired at the end of the season. Since he wasn't released, he probably left on his own terms (with the intention of coming back to the US), so I don't think there was any bad treatment on the part of the club.

    RE: Where

The last thing I read was that Kasey still had a one year contract offer from the club and he had not yet decided to accept or reject the contract. If this is true then the club has taken him off the squad page because Kasey is not a Fulham player at the moment but have made no announcement pending Kasey's decision on the contract.

Wiki has him as a "free agent" aligned with no club. "Most recently with Fulham" so it says. Like BarryP, I had last heard that the door was still open, but Roy's last discussion of the FFC goalkeeping situation didn't mention Kasey.

Having said that, it's ridiculous to go into a season with only two GKs, only one of which has ever played in the topflight. Look for something to be sorted out this week with either/both Kasey/Niemi

I would have loved to see him go one more year with Fulham, and then come home and be the starting keeper for the Seattle MLS team.

I heard John Harkes say last month that Keller had decided what he intended to do, but he couldn't divulge what that was ... which is as good as nothing. :|

If you haven't seen it already, there is a great interview with Keller on Soccernet. It's on the right hand side of the page in the video files. Well spoken and articulate throughout. He's going to be missed in SW6.

    Did I completely miss this?

I came across this bit in an EPSN soccernet story:

When we signed Zuberbuhler yesterday, I knew that it was over for Kasey. Our question then should be "with three veteran international GKs on the books, all in their mid- to late-30s, will we be loaning out Stockdale to get some matches under his belt in the CCC or League 1?"

Mates, I know that you like and back all the American players, but if we want to be honest we must admit that Kesey is a very nice guy but a less than average goalkeeper, in the same way that Eddie Johnson is hugely under the Premier League standard.
    We needed to change Kasey.
The real problem is that Schwarzer doesn't seem to be much better than him, I'm confident in Stckdale.

Possibly now, but in his prime Keller was far better than average. I am also not a big fan of Schwarzer, but between the guys we have, I think one of them will emerge and play well. Schwarzer does at least have a done of experience.

Agreed, the fact that I like how he does business doen't mean that we still need him in between the sticks. I have faith in Schwartzer being able to do the job for this year at least.

Methinks Han is onna those who believe youth is an advantage for a keeper, Stockdale's a BABY!

Unless he's a true prodigy/phenom, he would best sit and watch.

The best baseball catchers and shortstops are in their thirties, the best basketball point guards are thirty something, and the best gridball Linebackers are long in the tooth.

I think we should've traded Niemi. Liverpool wanted him, didn't they? Now he's damaged goods, it seems.

I hope Zuberbuhler is better than Lastuvka . . they kinda look the similar, don't they? Pascal looks like he's bout ta whip somebody's ass tho.

I was a little surprised that this thread died with a whimper.. obviously not surprised at where Kasey ended up though.

Good Luck, Kasey. unless you're playing the Crew.

Does anyone think the almost year off will hurt him? I thought you might see a one year or so loan to keep him fresh.

I gotta tell you, I never rated Kasey that highly until he turned out for FFC. I wasn't impressed with him at Spurs, although he was much better than the lame-o who replaced him [Paul Robinson]. I thought he was 2nd best to Freidel and then to Timmy. But ...

but ... when he replaced Niemi in goal and i got to watch his movement off the line, his distribution to the fullbacks and midfield -- even though I could kick almost as far as he could -- then I knew. Absent his match against Liverpool, he was a bloody rock down the stretch, and I'll speak highly of him for what he did for us last season.

Good luck with the Sounders, dude.
