That's a curious thing to say... you know how much influence George Will has on the electorate?

ZIP! The only thing he can do is start a conversation in some circles.

and occasionally write entertainingly about baseball. Since he crawled up on Nancy Reagan's lap and purred for 8 years, he's not had a lot of credibility as a political analyst nor has he much influence among conservatives I'm aware of.

Here's the point: After 8 years of continuous EVilBushCo Media rants.. never mind what's true and what isnt.. any change would look good to some people.

    And I can't say I blame them.

I can blame them for drinking the kool-aid, but not for an emotional quotient reaction. Considering that many feel "They're pretty much all the same".

So, while some may do a last minute voting booth switch, I tend to think a lot of people would like to see Obama elected purely because he's black.. thus get this incessant race dialogue over with.

Again, understandable... and why I would vote for JC WATTS if he had been running in the GOP Primaries, all else equal.

Influence has nothing to do with it. "Sandbagging" in this context refers to the practice of making your candidate out to be a huge underdog so that if he wins, it can be proclaimed as a massive upset and a seismic shift in public opinion.

That's so freakin convoluted, it even amazes me.

So anyone who prognosticates, is covering their bets? Don says it's McCain ... was he sandbagging, too?

Based on my knowledge of Will, if he's wrong ... and he has been.. his wrong conclusion wont help his cred.

Just to be clear, my attitude on the issue is that the revelations on Obama's associations came both too early and too late to affect the campaign. Hillary -and the MSM- ignored them, until after the early states where it would have made a difference... by the time the conventions are over, the charges and effect of them will be 'old news' and seem 'mean and nasty'.

hard to believe you've never heard of sandbagging in this context -- or apparently in any context. Southern pointy-football coaches have been doing this since time began.

Here's how it'll play out -- by the time the conventions are over, the bloggers and radio guys on the right will have conceded the election to O'bama. Then, when McCain wins comfortably, the rejoinder will be "how screwed up are the Democrats to have lost an election they so had in the bag?" We saw this in 2004. Every time I heard, "how screwed up can you be NOT to win that election," I pointed out, "the American people have never turned out a sitting president while we're at war. NEVER."

Now check out 'fog's four elements [only two of which are enough to make O'bama neck and neck with McCain], and you'll see that our boy is saying that just being young and black would do. Everyone knows how easy life is for a young black man in this country.

Yeah, 'fog. You may say you don't know what sandbagging is, but you're doing a wonderful job of it.

Oh, Don... how far you will stretch to make a point.

I'll pass up the chance to rant on the "Culture of the 'Hood" in response to 'how hard black youth have it. Cosby's made that point and so have countless others.

But I'll point out 'White Guilt' will have some impact, and it wont all be reflected on exit poll discontinuities. Not to mention AGAIN the weariness of the electorate on all the charges, smears and slimes... real and imagined.

I expect any result. Meaning I wont be surprised if you're right, I wont be surprised if you're wrong.

Oh... forgot to ALSO point out, the GOP are even a bigger mess than the Dems. No message, no standards, no platform, no hope.

McCain's running on his own. And 20% Hillary crossovers aint gonna do it.

well, actually, neither party has a platform until one is adopted at the convention. Expect a HUGE bump for McCain after the Republican convention.

Don't you have to be the favorite to sandbag?

And if not, what more favorable set of circumstances could the dems possibly have asked for going into the primaries? Now if the choices made during those primaries have narrowed the gap, that doesn't make it any less an upset. Might make the dem leadership appear to be either more inept or more out of touch though.

Taking Don's analogy, Lou Holtz was a sandbagger. Grant Teaff was just telling the truth.

*Teaff was the long suffering coach of that American football powerhouse, Baylor University.
