Funny this wasnt on the radar until this Times article:

'Disneyland' comes to Baghdad with multi-million pound entertainment park

Other than the 200,000 free skateboards, I think it's a great idea.

But this article would not be compete without reading the comments.

Those show, conclusively, that there will NEVER EVER be 'political unity', without a second coming of the messiah.

    I spit on 'progressives'!

Well, the theme park isn't even designed yet, but it's achieved one major goal already. It's given the right wing yet another "them or us" topic with which to "spit on" anyone who disagrees with them about anything.

Thanks for that... did you READ the comments?

If you want to just come out and say that it's an evil capitalist plot, just say so ... dont get 'all offended ' on me. If the shoe doesnt fit, toss it aside.

There is no nuance here. There's ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

Let me just expand a little on my views... I think it might actually 'breed terrorists'.

    200,000 Skaters!

So, skateboarders are terrorists, huh? I didn't even know that they were progressive!

And yes, I read the comments -- read them all. If I think it's a bad idea it's because I'm anti-capitalist in your befuddled brain, eh?

No, I think it's a bad idea because it will be the region's largest target for violence. I also think it's a bad idea because without an infrastructure that's viable, this is a stupid waste of money.

Perhaps it's just this time of year and I live where I live that the article made me think of an exchange that goes:

"Colonel Travis, we've received word from Goliad. General Fannin won't get to San Antonio in time to relieve your force at the Alamo."

"Did you tell him that we're short of food, clean water, medical supplies, and ammunition? Did you tell him that we've barely repelled the last few attacks?"

"Yes, sir; I did. He suggested that you might want to consider building a big Ferris Wheel inside the courtyard."

    "He ... what?"

"Yes sir. He said everyone knows that when people are surrounded on all sides by violence and hatred and there is little food and water, what is REALLY needed is entertainment."

Well, gee; when you put it like that ... I guess it would be downright un-American to disagree with you.

In FACT, I believe that this project, once underway will a LONG way in restoring 'normalcy' to the lives of everyone in Baghdad. And not just those who can afford a day at that park. Note the park itself will be run by Iraqi's FOR Iraqi's the developer expects to make his money in the adjacent hotels. Which will, besides employing them, have no effect on the average Iraqi's purse.

All of which will provide employment. And require good infrastructure... for governmental revenue. It's called 'incentive'.

Unsaid in your criticism, is that the reason the infrastructure is in such bad shape is not due to lack of will, but lack of will of the IG and US to provide adequate security from terror hit squads.

Because of Petraeus' applying what had already been demonstrated to work, instead of some bureaucrat's idea of how an occupier acts, the Iraqi people are getting the message. Sorry to tell you this, but soon Al Sadr's thugs wont be able to even walk the streets outside their little hidey holes in PARTS of Sadr City.

Unremarked is that Iraq IS a non-sectarian leaning country.
I know you may not know this, but Sadr LOST in Basra and he's losing more every time he opens his mouth. Same for Al Queda in Iraq.

In thousands of towns across the US, skaters are regarded as 'little terrorists'.... Yes or No?

    and get a grip!

It's up to you whether or not YOU consider yourself 'Progressive'... if you looked at those negative comments, I think a fair number of them WOULD.

It's those I addressed in my comments and Those I will never deal with.

    War, Inc!

Sure hope it's funnier than I see in the trailer... but there's no doubt they cast it right.
