    Somewhere John Madden is crying..

While I'm not a Packer fan, a nod of appreciation has to be given to #4 on the day he has decided to hang them up. Now you can argue that he doesn't belong in the discussion of who is the best ever. However, it can't be denied that belongs in the same room as Montana, Unitas, and Elway.

No one played with more unbridled joy as Favre. Whether or not he was jawing w/Warren Sapp, tackling a wide receiver who caught one of his td throws, or running around and throwing underhanded. He was never afraid to try and make a play (to his detriment at times, but he made a hell of a lot more good plays than bad ones).

His final pass was a costly one, but of all the great QBs only Elway went out on top. I'll choose to remember the Monday night game less than 24 hours after his dad died in which he threw 4 tds in the first half, ripping his helmet off in celebration of his first Super Bowl td, and acting like a kid in the backyard throwing a snowball in the playoffs this year (against my Seahawks no less). Thanks Brett, for the hours of entertainment you've given on Sunday afternoons.

As a Bears fan all I can say is this. It's about damn time. It's now a 2 team race for the division crown. Bears and Vikes. This time though Peterson isn't gonna run for over 200 yds on us.

Favre not only belongs on the list of top quarterbacks of all time for talent sake he also belongs on the top of the all time quarterbacks list for sheer entertainment value. With the possible exception of Fran Tarkington I cannot think of any quarterback who made things as interesting, for the good or for the bad, as Favre did on a every game basis.

I always considered it a bit of irony that the man Favre replaced was known as the "Magic Man" because the way Favre made Majkowski disappear was the real bit of magic in Green Bay.

As a Bears fan about the nicest thing I have to say about Brett is that if he were a Bear he would have been my favorite player. Unfortunately, he wasn't and I hated him more than anyone in the league. Glad he is gone but I wouldn't put it past him to try to pull a Roger Clemens and come out of retirement once the season starts. It is a lot harder to do in football but I wouldn't put it past him.

having watched him since his first snap in college, there will be a void come football season. HOwever, i'm glad he retired after a good year. His last pass wasn't great, but the season was. good for him.

ja and FFC, I couldn't agree with you more about if he were a Bear, which he isn't, he would be my favorite player...still I don't, nor do I think any Bear fan who is a true football fan, truely hates him. Now I do hate him because of all the pain he has caused Bear fans, but over the past few years we are the ones who have been inflicting the pain.

He was a great player, great for the game, but now those dumb fudge packing imbreds are going to be bad for a long time, and I hope they enjoy it. If there is ONE thing I hate more than the Packers...it is a Packers fan...ooooooh my gosh do I dislike them very very very much.

I knew it was over when I was sitting in the Globe watching the Bears Packers last regular season game on TV in December and Favre just didn't want to be at Soldier Field. He said it was the coldest and most miserable he's ever been at a game and you could tell.

So to Brett, you were a great player, you were a hard nosed competitor, and as a sports fan from Chicago thats all we ask of our athletes. It just sucks when our hated rivals happen to have that athlete...It's now a Bear and Viking battle to the top of the NFC Norrice...

    Oh yeah and GO HAWKS!!!

Favre was the man! I am glad to hear that you Bears fans appreciate how he was a great athlete, competitor, etc... I think he is in the class of the players you cannot hate. The good thing is that he is not prolonging a career where we would see him lingering as a back up (that was a good point in the paper this morning - like Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith, etc...).

It seems like the emergence of Ryan Grant at RB and the maturing of Greg Jennings at WR would have made it attractive for Favre to stay, but it looks like the Bears get to salivate at the snaps being taken by Aaron Rogers.

Another thing that made Favre great was that he had the cameo in Something About Mary.
