Agree Petty as long as it's private money, I dont mind that some kids are being paid to work harder at their school work. I'm afraid that if they get results it may spill over into public school and I would have to be against that. It would be a hornets nest.

However, if it's something that cant be applied on any significant scale, why even evaluate it.

It seems to me if kids cant be motivated to work harder at school unless you pay them maybe further schooling is just forcing a round peg into a square hole. What's wrong with paying them to learn an actual skill or trade, like an apprentice program. It could be a win-win.

Does this make sense? Would this ever work? What do you think it would mean to kids who already work hard at school but dont get paid.

 

Ah.. there you have the nut of it. This means the parents REALLY need to be involved and point out to the kids who already do the right thing that they have already been doing it and that the parent has full confidence the kid will still achieve to their best ability.

I think the MAIN effect might be on those who have the ability but lack the interest, while grading just above the cut-off point for the programs... That would have been me.

Funding? There will be interest from major Corporations and Philanthropies, as long as the program is kept 'lean and mean' and produces results.

 

Good points Petty, but I still think apprentice programs might work too. Some of the bright kids that dont have the interest for academics at 14, 15, and 16 may very well have it at 20 after they've made some money and earned some respect for a few years.
