I just got an inspirational email, passed on by my brother, which lauds Denzel Washington's quiet support of the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, in which the actor reportedly wrote a check on the spot for the entire cost of building a new addition to Fisher House, a visitor's hostel.

Unfortunately, for my sense of optimism, when I looked for the original writeup on his visit, the first search results hit on Snopes{dot}com

You'll have to read the link, snopes does not allow their copy to be 'copied'

But FORTUNATELY The story is not made up of whole cloth... He DID make a sizable contribution.

So the effect overall is heartwarming. But rumor and juxtapositon of events show exactly why we dont go on chain-letter evidence... which I learned long ago {When maillists were how we 'net-sters' communicated} is not much better than an E-Literate version of the old game"Telephone".

Anyway, the EFFECT is what counts, at least in this case.

Thanks for talking about Fisher House, pard. It is worth pointing out that, while BAMC lies within the government reservation knows as Ft. Sam Houston, the totality of this facility was funded privately, including a significant amount from other artistic and entertainment figures. It's only been open for about a year, but it's doing lots of good work already.
