OK, so the subject line is a bit of an exaggeration, but does anyone else get really bummed out when scrolling down to the login box and seeing that big "18th" staring at you?

And the fact that we have to wait two weekends to see if it changes is even worse.

18th does bother me. And what bothers me even more is that I did not look at our schedule as being all that bad over the first two plus months. I thought we would be in better position. We have only played two of the big four.

Let's hope that changes soon though Jelly!

I thought we would be in the middle table, but i feel your pain on 18th. i hope we turn it around, don't want to be cutting close like last year.

But like Lyle mentioned in another thread. We are only 3 points off of that 'mid table' position.

Yes'm...we are three points away from midtable...and considering who the current midtable inhabitors are playing next week, we should be able to nudge our way in-between Birmingham and Reading. Won't make me completely comfortable unless we beat Sunderland as well...two threes to end October and my ulcer may go away!

    As for today...COME ON ENGLAND!

Just imagine if Fulham takes 9 points out of 9 away from their next three matches. Fulham could, dare I say, end up in the top half of the table... Would be an incredible turn of events and a fantastic change in fortune, but I am not going to hold my breath. I believe Fulham takes 7 points out of the possible 9 ahead. (fingers crossed)

As for England... the football team will roll Estonia, but I am on pins and needles waiting for the Rugby WC Semi Final between England and France. The auld enemies meet again. COME ON ENGLAND!!! (Wilkinson to crush Chabal)

Most everyone will disagree with me, but I do not think we will get anything at the Stadium of Light. The last fixtures we last played there, Sunderland got their ONLY home win of the season against us.... Of course it was a replay of a match that was snowed out in which we were leading 1-0 when it was called off. It would be nice to get some revenge, as I felt pretty bad that afternoon.

It is because of that game that I get really nervous as a Fulham fan. Everyone has already written Derby off, mentality wise they have nothing to loose.

If there is anything I have learned about Fulham over the years it is that NOTHING is guaranteed. There are no sure wins and there are no sure losses. To say we will easily beat Derby is crazy and to say we will win at Sunderland without a problem is inaccurate as well.

That is not to say it will not happen, but this is Fulham. It might be tough.

I really hate the "9 points from the next three or we're in serious trouble." Why? Because 6 points from the next three matches will probably put us in mid-table.

Look guys, the team provides us plenty of gut-wrenching as it is. We don't need to go out of our way with false "must do's" just to increase our tension level.

Mini-hijack alert: Tom, good result for Polska this weekend. What's the 411 on the striker who had such a good day?

That would be Ebi Smolarek. He is a midfielder/striker that plays for Racing Santander in Spain. He played for Borussia Dortmund the last number of seasons and this summer made the move to Spain. He is a poor man's version of Rosicky and probably could have been had by an English team had they gone for him.

As for Poland, they are on the verge of making it into their first ever European Championship. One win from their final two against Belgium and Serbia should do it. That will NOT be easy, but I think they will get it done.

Congrats to Polska and to Tom for yet again having his article placed on ESPN's Soccernet website. Voice of reason and provides a contrasting perspective from most premier league opinions.

I was more excited to see that Scotland moved one step closer to the European Championship. It is amazing that one of the nations who made it to the World Cup Final will not be present in the Euro Championship. Would rather see France advance, but just glad to see another underdog making noise.

Thanks T_O_M. I appreciate the congrats on the Poland win. Following Poland is similar to following Fulham. Both teams will get you excited and upset a few teams here and there, but at the same time they can let you down and disappoint you. They suffer from "Fulhamish" days on the pitch just like our Cottagers.

That being said, when they do qualify for a major tournament it is an accomplishment in and off itself. I hope they can hold on and get it done.

I remember in the early '70s when Poland knocked England out of the European Nation's Cup at Wembley. Before the match, Brian Clough [who was actively campaigning for the England managerial job] called the Polish goalkeeper "a clown." Well, "the clown" turned in one of the best displays anyone had seen in a long time and Poland won. Thanks to Clough, that was the ONLY time I'd ever rooted for an England opponent. Remember, Tom, this was during the Cold War and Poland were "bad guys."

Oh yes, during the 70's and early 80's Poland had a great team. One such player on the early 80's team was the aforementioned Smolarek's father. He was quite the player.

Every time I go back to Poland or meet a Polish person here in Chicago that is interested in soccer, I always hear about the great Polish teams. Boniek, Lato and Smolarek were some of the great Polish players.

I hope we are on the cusp of a new generation of good Polish teams.

So Tom, have you claimed your Polish citizenship yet?

You could be the Polska National Team Public Relations Director. Just food for thought...

Being a Fire supporter, I have a soft spot for Piotr Nowak. Freddy Adu is not a big fan.
