No? Never scored a goal in a big game against Mexico in the World Cup? Landon is rightly criticized for his refusal to play abroad, but I think the people who trip over themselves to rake him over the coals often overstate the case about him.

"on wikipedia" and "confirmed" are two very different things. If it was official it'd be on the club website. The most Sky says is that he's "thought to be undergoing a medical.

Portsmouth signed Lassana Diarra. I hope Roy has a good idea of where to find a holding midfielder because one of the best ones likely to be transferred just went off the market. :x

I completly agree. Kamara and Healy have been almost useless this season. I am actually excited about seeing Marlon out there.

No offense to the Norn Irons, but rate the Scandinavians over them.

Now if we could just get our hands on Ibrahimovic and convince King Henrik back to England....

    more on this...

"Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Hertha Berlin striker Marko Pantelic may be set for a move to the Premier League with West Ham or Fulham.

His agent Mark Sherman said: "I received a phone call from West Ham United and Fulham and they told me they are interested in Pantelic.

"It's not the first time I've had some phone calls for Marko.

"Chelsea, Villarreal and Lens were also asking about him in the summer. "

i wonder if this was before the King signing, or if we're still interested, or if his agent is full of @#^#!

Ives saying that EJ deal still in the works:

"When Fulham acquired Watford striker Marlon King on Thursday for a 5 million pound transfer fee, it was believed that the move signaled the end if Eddie Johnson's chances of signing with the London club.

That is apparently not the case.

According to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, the Johnson-to-Fulham deal is still on and the hold-up now centers around Johnson's ability to secure a work permit. Johnson has played in 72 percent of the U.S. national team's official matches during the past two years, just short of the 75 percent required to secure a work permit.

Johnson is set to meet with a work permit tribunal on Wednesday to attempt to secure the permit. If he does, Fulham is expected to add him to a forward crop that includes King, Clint Dempsey and a recovering Brian McBride.

What do you think of this news? Surprised that Fulham would still want Johnson? Surprise that Johnson still wants to go? Thinking about how Bruce Arena's decision not to put Eddie Johnson in the Italy World Cup match could now cost Johnson a move to England?"

I think it would be great to obtain Eddie, he would add depth and good promise in the club future.

Someone, including Johnson, should hae known he was just short of the req'd 75 percent and then he could have played vs Sweden tomorrow to get him there. Unlike the Italy World Cup match, the US actually could use him tomorrow. I wasnt too fond of several decisions Arena made in the WC, but limited playing time for Johnson was not one of them.

Interesting point Oms about Arena and Italy, but an assist has to go to Pablo for getting red-carded which changed the tactics in that match.

For me the next signing needs to be a ball-winning, pain-in-the-arse facing, defensive-minded mid w/a good passing touch (is that too much to ask? )

When including the guys who've been injured for the whole season, but are back in full training the transfer window has gone from bleak to pretty good w/2 weeks to go.

Defenders; Hangeland (everyone likes him, so good enough for me), Christanval (won't be surprised to see a Hang/PC combo starting soon)

Mid; Jimmy B (barring setbacks, will get better w/every minute on the pitch), want to put Cook here, but to steal LBNo11's line..who?, obvious need here

Forwards; King (pretty easy assessment; goals=great signing, not enough goals=bust), BigMac (back training, but one can only hope he finds his way back onto the field), *

GK; Kasey sounds like he'll be available w/in the next 3-4 weeks

    * I for one would now think EJ's signing would be beneficial now that King is in the fold. He can come in w/out the pressure of being the "savior", get accustomed to his surroundings, work hard (fingers-crossed), and be a late-game replacement w/pace.

I like Guzan, but see him as a luxury, so if MAF wants to shell out the cash, by all means...

USA-Sweden will likely count as a "B International" so wouldn't count for this purpose anyway. Heck, they're disputing Donovan's goal in the Denmark game (as counting toward the record) as FIFA sees it as a "B International."

Stop the presses on the King Transfer:

"King move to Watford threatened after failed medical

Fulham's £5million move for Marlon King was in danger of collapse last night after the Watford striker failed a medical.

King missed six months of Watford's return to the top flight last season after suffering a serious knee injury in his third appearance.

Fulham could now attempt to reduce the transfer fee or try to land King on a pay-asyou- play basis.

Roy Hodgson has tied up the £2.5m capture of FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland and held talks yesterday withWerder Bremen's £2m midfielder Leon Andreasen.

He is keen on a loan deal for Lazio defender Guglielmo Stendardo, who is also wanted by Birmingham City, while Kansas City Wizards striker Eddie Johnson will join next week if granted a work permit."

Can anyone shed any light on this? I still have yet to see an official report confirming the deal is done.

My first thought is that the failed medical is just speculation. Probably just as likely that they're still working out contract details. As Lee Cook and Hameur Bouazza could attest, the Fulham medical is not too difficult.

Funny, on the official site 1st team players, Hangeland is there, but King is not, even though King supposedly "signed" before Hangeland. Maybe he failed the medical and the deal is off.
