Absolutely hilarious bit of diving, time-wasting, and probably an attempt to draw some sort of sanctions against Celtic by AC Milan goalkeeper Dida:

There's NEVER an excuse for a fan to be on the pitch, but Dida should be given about 5 retroactive red cards for this shameless piece of acting and dishonesty.

    LOL -- "Uh, not exactly a Mike Tyson hay-maker . . . "

Some of the comments under that video are a riot: "Dida must be Portugese for Douche."

Yeah, unless "the supporter" had a razor in the palm of his hand when he patted Dida's cheek, that's a tad bit of an overreaction. It probably will cause Celtic to get some sanctions.

    Jeez, I hate AC Milan.

Re: RE: Must-see video from Champions League

The second, slo-mo replay is the best -- you can see that the supporter never even actually touches Dida's face at all, much less hits him hard enough to hurt. The supporter barely glances his hand onto Dida's upper chest/shoulder area, Dida starts chasing the guy, then decides, "Oh, wait, I could milk this for a lot."

Gotta love how he doesn't decide to fall down for like 5 minutes. The ice bag in a spot he was never touched was a nice touch. The stretcher was the coup de grace.

You can almost see the wheels turning in Dida's head after a few steps:

    1. [Barely gets grazed in chest by fan] "WTF? Come here, you little . . .

    2. [Starts running after fan] "D@mn, this guy is fast . . . "

    3. [After taking 3 or 4 running steps to chase fan] "Wait a minute . . . let me think about this . . . . "

    4. [Stops running] "Hmmmm . . . "

    5. [Stands still] "Let's see . . . "

    6. [Still standing] "If I go down, maybe it will save our club's chances . . "

    7. [Still standing] "Yes, that's what I'll do . . .

    8. [Still standing] "Now, how should I fall down? . . .

    9. [Still standing] "Should I just stumble forward and stagger to the ground?"

    10. [Still standing] "Perhaps I should stagger around in a daze as if I'd been blugeoned senseless, and then slowly sink to my knees . . . "

    11. [Still standing] "I know! I will suddenly collapse to the ground as if a roof-top sniper has taken out my entire cerebellum with one clean head shot! Yes, that's what I'll do . . . "

    12. [Still standing] "Okay, let's make this look good . . . "

    13. [Falls to the ground as if shot through the head] "Are the officials looking? I hope they're seeing this . . . "

I commented about it on the Champions League thread, but I'll repeat that Dida's a total embarrassment.

This remninds me of the Brazil-Turkey match where the Turkey player taps the ball back to the Brazilian, it glances softly and harmlessly off his shins, and the shameless, dishonest Brazilian instantly collapses in agony . . . HOLDING HIS HEAD!

If FIFA and UEFA really want to clean up the game, they would give these play-actors multi-game bans for such blatant faking.

At least the Milan chairman has the class that he's not going to appeal to UEFA. He's willing to let the result stand without complaint.

I'm glad to hear that, too, although I wonder if part of that might be that he doesn't want his own club's shameless play-acting to come under too much scrutiny itself.

This just in. Celtic have ID'd the fan and banned him from all matches home & away. And Celtic's management have protested to UEFA about Dida's playacting:

"Old-timers" might remember what one G. Strachan the player might have done as Dida's opponent after that happened.

That's fabulous, surprised that he got 2 games, but I think that's great.

Dida deserves every bit of that punishment, but the question is, does it punish AC Milan too harshly?

If Celtic go on to the knockout stage and much more money, and Milan do not (in part because they lose to Shakhtar without having Dida allowed to play), which CLUB ends up paying the heavier price for one understandably enthusiastic, but terribly stupid and impulse challenged, fan.

Milan and Celtic have had some quality match-ups recently, so I respect Milan's apparent mutual respect of Celtic. I just wonder if there is not some unbalanced justice being meeted out here, with the scales tipping not in the favor of Milan.

That said, I imagine Dida's days of wine and pasta in Milan are numbered.

    'Mon the Hoops!!

The guys on Fox Football Phone-In (by the way, my 4-year old loves their theme song -- if it can even be called a song) were joking that the way to punish AC Milan would be to REQUIRE them to play Dida in every match.

True. The way he has been playing lately, perhaps it is a blessing. No idea who Milan's back-up keeper is or if he is any good, but by the size of their payroll, I imagine he can't exactly be a traffic cone.
