    RE: Baird

If we don't beat Derby we are in serious trouble, grave danger...whatever you want to call it

This going way out on a limb but in my mind if we beat Derby we will finish around 12-14. If we draw Derby we will have another nailbiter to the finish like last season and if we lose....I hope you get the picture

    what crap that was.

    talk about being completely impotent.

if we dont kill derby and reading we're in serious relegation talk.
oh wait - we already are.

Not good my friends. Not good. I can make every excuse in the book for this team and it does not matter. This is a results game and right now we are not getting results. We are losing at home and that is not good at all considering are track record on the road the last few seasons.

    I am nervous.

It was due, in a strange way. I think may just turn the tide.

The first half was so promising. How many teams will go after Baird and succeed before Sanchez sits him down?

lets hope so, because if we dont get 9 points in our next three matches, we're done. this early portion of the season was arguably our easiest, and there's practically nothing to show for it.

yes, its still early. but last years relegation fodder (including west ham) were about we are now, then. and unlike spurs i really dont see this poor standing going away with a new coach.

    the ls watch begins now.

Reading will be tough; they've had similar luck to us this season, but have pretty much the same side that finished 8th last year.

I thought Fulham played very well in the first half; unlucky to not have scored. I think they came out flat at the start of the 2nd half (too complacent perhaps?) and suffered for it

Baird cost us the 2nd goal; the first was just great play by their forward (I can't really blame Boca on that one - he can't be expected to win every 1-v-1 against every quality striker; he positioned himself well).

I like Davies as right back and Seol in front of him. I prefer Kamara up front with Dempsey; bring on Healy as a 3rd striker if you need someone else late.

Just watched my tape of the game, wish I hadn't. So irritating.

Pisspoor defending from Boca on the first goal and the same for Baird on the second. I expect better from Boca, he can't let him turn him like that AHH. However I know better than to expect different from Baird, so how many have you cost us so far Crissy? 8, 10, 12?

So sick of losing to Portsmouth, so sick of losing period! Its never easy being Fulham!

It was a poor result, but Fulham came out flat in the second half and got what they deserved. The defending was solid in the first half and provided little to no opportunities for Pompey to score. Fulham was creating and getting forward well. Opportunities falling to Dempsey were well saved by James (to be honest, most of them were just half chances)

I have no idea what Lawrie said in the locker room, but it did little to inspire the troops and it showed. Boca and Baird were both caught out of position and Keller was hung out to dry. Keller also did a great job of not allowing the scoreline to be even more lop-sided by stopping Benjani's close range shot. The urgency after the first goal was not there, which really concerns me and when Fulham finally did begin to push forward they looked toothless and often times confused.

So, Fulham is now 0-1-1 for me watching them in the Cottage. Brought some football enthusiasts with me to the ground and they had a great time, but would of liked to see Fulham be more aggressive. Needless to say, I wasn't in a talking mood after that display.

Come on Fulham... We need those 3 points against Derby.

Finally watched the match last night from 9-11. I'm disgusted.
    1. Playing "Spot the Steven" is no fun when Davis is playing such crap.
    2. Unless he's the reincarnation of George Best, Seol should learn that wingers can pass as well as dribble.
    3. If Dempsey's going to be the target man, it would be nice if, say, one out of ten flicks went to a teammate.
    4. Way to go, Lawrie, just keep pumping high crosses in for Distin and Campbell to take care of.

We had them on the run in the first half, but we needed to vary the focus of attack. Once Pompey figured we were going to play high balls to our short attack -- and it took them the whole first half -- we were dead.

The only player who looked consistently quality was Keller. With strong honorable mentions [in the first half] to Healy and Davies. Man, we looked like crap, and we'd better get our shit together.

LS in his postgame press conference discussed how the team played well but did not get the result. I'm starting to lose patience with him. This isn't gymnastics. You don't get style points. We're losing points for a reason. Figure it out, Mr. Manager, or return to NI.

Let me amend my point. I like LS and the team is clearly playing better than they did last year. Last season, by the end, it was almost like we fans jsut hoped it would be close. As I recall this is our first two-goal defeat of the year.

That being said, I was disappointed in LS's press conference in that he did not seem worried or concerned enough. It was almost like Cookie at the end of his time with the team. I'm assuming Lawrie's a little harsher with the players. It just seems like Sanchez is thinking, "Hey, we're playing OK, a little more luck and we'll be fine." I have been saying that too but I'm starting to not believe it. (Not to mention the fact that based on such posts as Chicago Tom's and Hatter Don's, we did not play that well in reality.)

Dave, we were far the better team in the first half in terms of ball movement, defensive decisiveness, and overall aggression. We just never looked like translating that into putting the ball in the net. Pompey were really ineffective in the first half and we were unable to take advantage. Never has it ever been more obvious that we need McBride. We needed the big, tough, immovable object to knock down and flick on. Dempsey is better suited to run on to those knock downs, and the guy who most missed Macca was Healy.

My major problem with Lawrie was that once the Pompey defense got organized and started to deal better with our repetitive aerial attacks, we did absolutely nothing to counter that. It was also at this time that Pompey discovered that they had a midfield, something we never allowed them to discover in the first half.

One more comment. On television, it sounded very like a Pompey home match -- from before the kickoff to the end. The only time I could hear the home fans clearly was when they booed Sean Davies and Papa. And what was with all the empty seats? How about a little support?

Well, this is my problem. This is not the first time we have looked better than the opposition in the first half yet we have either failed to score as was the case on Sunday, or in other matches we blow leads.

As Don mentioned, teams are making adjustments at halftime and Lawrie and his staff do NOT seem to be making any adjustments at all. That is bothersome and worrysome.

I am NOT calling for his head right now, but he must talk to the team and make them aware that a sense of urgency in the teams play is needed. The pressure to avoid the drop does NOT start in the final third of the season, it starts now and if bad results keep coming Fulham's way it will be tough for Fulham to stop the negative play and negative results.

This is a game where results are the only thing that matters and right now we are not getting results. The next three matches against Derby, Sunderland and Reading are must wins. If we do not get positive results in those three matches, it will be a very nervy season for Fulham supporters.

Don... in reference to the Pompey supporters in the ground they were loud and up for the match. I was shocked at the number of them in the Putney end as well. Poor turn out in that end and I was a bit disappointed to see the ground not filled by kick off.

That being said, the Fulham supporters were in good voice in the first half, but after halftime voices along with the play on the field began to fade. Unfortunate.

I could not understand why Fulham began to play long ball against a side with probably the most massive back line in the prem. How is Dempsey expected to continually win the ball against Campbell and Dystin? Ki-Hyeon impressed after he came on, but he tried to beat too many defenders. Tip: if three defenders are collapsing on you, odds are that someone is open for a pass.

Disappointing result and if Fulham doesn't earn at least 5 points in the next 3 matches, I will be extremely disappointed. Can't ask for a better run of matches to shake a club out of a "funk".

Come on Fulham. Lets get some results.

I totally agree. Redknapp was biding his time in the first half. And almost immediately into the second half, he made some changes, BOOM. Game Over.

Neither am I. But I am pointing to, and callously tapping, my watch.

I totally agree with Don's comments about our aerial attacks. They were totally ineffective. If we're going to stick to that style though, we need somebody with some height up front, ie, Kamara. NOT Healy. Healy does not have enough of a ground game to make up or the fact that he's the size of a leprechaun and has no chance in the air. Kamara should have started or at least come on well before the hour mark.

OK, having never been to a match at the Cottage, I'm confused. Where exactly do the away supporters sit? I thought it was the Putney end, which looked half empty on tv. But yet they were by far the louder group. Where do the rest of the them hide? Somewhere on Stevenage side?

Having found out the score, there was absolute no need to subject myself to the torture (did plenty of that watching the Angels getting swept). I did watch the lowlights on FSC and seeing Baird chase Hierdersson like a kid with a dollar and the ice cream truck driving away was a BIG shock :?

I understood after the Chelski game not to give Stefan a run out vs his old team, but you know Kamara was dying to get out there and he had to start, don't care who he was paired with, he HAD to start.

I thought they'd get 10 pts from the 5 game stretch and with 2 games down there is 9 points to go. However, there can be only 1 focus, and that is Derby County. Of course, these are worrisome times when your only focus is Derby County.
