I like Carson too, but Villa had to pay £2million to get him on LOAN. That's a lot for a guy who might not even start for us. I don't think Keller has enough left to play every match, but he'll be fine in a backup role. He was a free agent, so I can't think of a single downside to this signing.

Interceptaverde is like 70 years old. He's so long in the tooth that the teeth have fallen out and he's making commercials for Fixodent.

Now that's Funny. I can still picture him throwing that one directly 2 Shane Conlin in the Fiesta Bowl. Very Neil O' Donnell esque if ever.

And how about to mentor some Yanks.

Keller is definitely an improvement over Warner and Batista. He is also an experienced and vocal leader back there. He will help organize the defense and will have no qualms about giving them an earful when they screw up. In my humble but accurate opinion, the club is better this afternoon than it was this morning. Welcome to the Cottage, Casey!

I think they signed him because Niemi didn't want a keeper around who would ask to borrow his hair dye.

I think it was a very solid signing. I know he is getting up there in age, but he is still a very good goalkeeper. As stated earlier, he does not make many mental errors, and I believe he still has a couple good years left. Especially, if he is going to be a backup, I think he will be a real asset to the team.

I'm gonna sum up my views:

Keller is a good deal for backup, but LS should get him busy on mentoring Warner, who only needs to get his head straight to become a starter. Review the goofs... what were they and when did they happen. Only when he has a little time to think and hear the footsteps.

Keller has the cred to bark orders at Knight and Bocanegra or anyone else on the pitch.. that will help.

Keller to MLS?... dont make me laff.. only for a coach. There's probably 5-6 keepers now better than him and paid dirt wages. And he knows it... That is ONE position that you wont see retiring into MLS.

Guarantee Joe Cannon wishes he was behind Fulham Defenders instead of Galaxy's.. and he could do it better.

'Fog, I think Warner is past the point in his career where he can develop into a starter, no matter who is mentoring him. He is 33 years old, after all. The one who could benefit from Keller's presence is Batista, who has not yet turned 21.

It's too late to develop his mechanics, true... it's not too late to get his head straight or there would be no hope for us geezers.

I do not understand why so many underestimate the psychological side of the game!

How does the idea of 5-6 keepers better than him stifle his chances of going to the MLS . . did you forget there are 13 teams? There's a spot for him somewhere.

That being said, I don't know that anyone would drop 200K on a keeper, but who knows. Hell, Matt Reis isn't earning more than 150K, and Onstadt isn't making more than 168K.

    Somethings better than nothing, though.

I'm not talking about him not being asked to go into MLS.

I'm saying he wouldnt want the comparisons. As it is, MLS keepers have scant chance of going to Europe because of the caps problem.

Does surprise me that Onstad is still around, though.

PS: Who rated Hahnemann? I sure didnt, his success was a big surprise to me..

I think the man can swallow his pride if the other option is retirement versus getting a paycheck doing what he loves.

Pat Onstadt has the lowest GAA in the league with 0.74, he's rocking and rolling, it shouldn't surprise anyone.

Yeah, similar to Reyna, I could see Keller wanting to finish his career back at home in the U.S. of A., even if he had to take a pay cut to do so.

Fog could mean that he's surprised Onstad is still around in MLS instead of playing abroad somewhere.

Taking a pay cut is one thing (see: Reyna), getting paid a relative pittance is something else entirely. No MLS team is even offering as much as $200k to Keller.

I don't think this would have worked because Sanchez would have had to promise Liverpool and Carson that he'd be first choice. Fulham, of course, already has a first choice keeper in Niemi.

If Carson was going to be a back up, he would have remained at Liverpool.

Yes. I think he has the caps for Canada. And even if he didnt I think he gets different treatment from a yank.

Unlike Tom, I am an American homer :) Good signing for the reasons stated above. It's nice to see Sanchez and the chairman make efforts to better the team rather than remain stagnant.
