RE: Re: RE: NYRB v LAG

LA admitedly had their 4 starting defenders out for the NYRB game. While it was entertaining for the 66,000+ fans in the stands, I am sure Becks would prefer to have a backline behind him that can at least slow down the opposition.

Differences between Eddie Johnson and Clint Mathis:

    1. Clint actually scored during the World Cup.
    2. Clint had the ambition to go play outside the U.S.

What lessons can Clint teach Jozy? Don't get too sidetracked with living up the lifestyle of a professional athlete. Don't show up your coach. Don't yap at the ref. (Hey, at the very worst, you're right that he can learn a bit about "how not to be." Kind of like how they bring recovering drug addicts in to talk to high school students and say "don't screw up your life like I did.")

But on top of that, despite all of his issues, Clint certainly still has skills. Did you see his goal on Saturday? Or the shot he took (with his bad foot, even) from outside the area to set up JPA's winning goal? When Clint has his head on straight (which, admittedly, is less often than he should be), he's an awfully good player. He almost scored from 25-ish yards out after picking off a lazy back-pass from Beckham too - that would've been priceless.

Disclaimer: I'll freely admit that I'm a big fan of Mathis - I actually have both Red Bulls and Hannover jerseys of his.

Also: Yes, injuries certainly played a role in the goal glut. LA were without four starters and RBNY were without two.

But EJ actually went to a Sport shrink to get himself back together.... he didnt need 'just the right manager' to do it, unlike Mathis.. and Razov, by the way.

OK, so? (I guess that's another difference between the two.)

I mean, it's great that the sports shrink worked for EJ, but A) that doesn't explain his lack of ambition to go play in Europe, and B) it doesn't change the fact that there are things Jozy can learn from Mathis.

You cant say he has no ambition for Europe... he says it's not quite time yet... differnt strokes.
Agreed: Jozy could start with: "What would you do differently?"

Easily the most exciting match I've ever attended. The best part was that it wasn't as overrun by Galaxy/Beckham fans as you would think. All of the Red Bulls fans came out of the woodwork for this one, and they were treated to quite a show with their home team coming out victorious.

I didn't even have time to be angry at all the defensive screw ups, because there were so many exciting goals being scored. Mathis scored an effing bullet, and Angel . . forget it man, best forward in the MLS hands down. If Conway was in goal, the match would've been 5-1. Waterreus needs to be shown the bench.

Sorry, but I gotta ask . . do I detect a touch of MLS snobbery here? Among Fulham supporters? You must be joking. If you live in an area where have an MLS home team, and their name isn't Real Salt Lake, you lose. End of story. You're missing out. Buy a ticket for a Saturday night game now, and see some live ball for a change.

The end . . no way Galaxy is making playoffs. They need to fire Yallop, because he has done nothing with the amazing amount of talent on that team.

If LA gets at least 2 of their starting defenders back on the pitch, I don't see them losing any more games. After the Chivas Game on Thursday, they'll be VERY tough to beat even without defenders, as Becks gets healthier and gels more with Donovan and Pavon.

Is there, indeed, an 'amazing' level of talent? I dont think so. But I REALLY think, and said somewhere else, that LA is the team to watch as soon as Beckham gets his feet.

Despite my view that the best defense is sometimes a great offense, I dont see LA getting many clean sheets in the remaining games... but instead as LA have already figured in the two highest scoring games in recent MLS competitions, it will be very entertaining from this point on.

Also FYI, and I'm not exactly sure how I know this, but MLS scheduled the Galaxy so that most of their matches would be played AFTER they acquired Beckham.

They still have a shot, albeit a long one.

Well, I've only watched about 6 or 7 MLS matches this year, so I can't claim to be an expert on who's got the best side, but I'm telling you that the Donovan/Beckham matchup has got to scare the freaking bejesus out of everybody else in the league. If they had a forward line like NYRBs, I'd predict maximum points for the rest of the season even if Christian, Pettyfog, [your name here], and I were their back four.

How good do I think the Donovan/Beckham partnership can be? If they were in our midfield -- and we don't lose McBride -- I think we qualify for Europe THIS SEASON.

I'm going to catch as much MLS as I can, and hope that the Galaxy -- who I still don't like -- make the playoffs so I can watch these two guys carve people up.

Sublicon, I admit it. I should've gone to that game. Unfortunately I already had tickets for something else the same night.

Haha, oh no? Stay tuned...

Beckham, Donovan, Pavon, Xavier, Jones . . then you have their supporting cast who isn't too shabby, including Albright and Jazic. As far as MLS goes, whether you think its amazing or not, a team with those players should have accrued more than 14 points this season.

Even with Donovan's attacking power alone, which has single-handedly decided many a USA match, should have earned them much more than 14 points. For that, I place the blame squarely on Yallop.

Listen, next time your girlfriend gives your tickets to the Lion King . . and the other option is LA Galaxy v. NY Red Bulls . . you gotta clear your head for a sec, and make the right decision.

Lion King was kind of a good show though, hope you had fun!

I could, but then I'd have to ask if it was the Mets or the Yankees . . and if you said the Yankees, then I couldn't give you any benefit, because you didn't even benefit yourself on that one!

Speaking of, I was at Shea to see the Mets upend the Pads last night. Mets magic. :D

Actually, I was out at Coney Island seeing the Cyclones play the SI Yankees. Cyclones got smoked, unfortunately.

That was a great game last night!
