Hello friends, I may have done one of these before but I haven't come here in a long time. My name is Geoff, I'm from New Jersey, but I live in Brooklyn. I've been a Fulham fan for about a year maybe, but I've fallen hard . . why? Yanks, yanks, yanks, I'll admit, but they've just served to ignite the fire. I'm also a Red Bulls season ticket holder.

My main headquarters for games is Nevada Smith's, where if I'm lucky I'll find some other folks who are there for the game. But unless I'm out of town for some reason, I'm at the bar Saturday or Sunday morning without fail, whether its 7:45am or its 11am or whenever.

If you're in NYC, please give me a shout. It would be cool to have a consistent crew/network of people that show up to bar every weekend. I've met one true fan that is there about as much as I am, and a couple flyby's that show up here and there. We need more consistency, people!! I know you're out there.

    Hiya Sub!

I, myself, am a newbie fan! The folks on this forum are wonderful and have cemented my love for the team.

I became a fan on recommendation...two of my best friends are footie-freaks, except they are both into the "big teams" (one loves Arsenal and the other ManU). I wanted to support a smaller club, one with loyal fans and "chutzpah"- they both said I should follow Fulham. Now, I am a wee bit obsessed!

    Can't wait until AUGUST 11!

The Godfather, aka AmericanMike, is going to make a visit back to the states and I believe he mentioned he would be in the NYC area. You should get in touch with him and you guys could catch up on all things Fulham.

Best of luck finding a crew to watch the matches with.

    Up the Fulham!!!

You know, a guy (me) moves from NY to London and all of a sudden these fans in the NYC area come out of the wood works!

Great to see a growing contingent of Fulham fans stateside, and especially in NYC.

Great to have you Sublicon, enjoy and maybe see you soon.

Another New Yorker! Welcome, welcome. I am at Nevada Smith's on many a match day. We'll have to meet up one of these days.

    Dude, you're me!

I've been trying to sell people on the Red Lion rather than Nevada Smith's or McCormack's or other alternatives for a while now, but I'm certainly flexible about where to go.

jmh, does the Red Lion have an online schedule? And where is it? I'd love some alternatives. I just go to NS because they have so many screens.

    RE: Re: Greetings from NYC

I was about to say that the Red Lion doesn't have a website but I just checked to make sure and it looks like they do:

    http://www.redlionnyc.com/

Not the best website I've ever seen though. It's at Bleecker and Thompson. Not a whole lot of screens, but:

    A) It's not usually tremendously crowded on soccer mornings and I've never had a problem getting a TV tuned to Fulham.
    B) They make a pretty decent English breakfast, which fits with the soccer mood and which is helpful if I'm drinking beer in the morning!
    C) The guy who runs the place on weekends is really friendly (even if he is a ManUre fan).

    RE: Re: Greetings from NYC

    Nevada's is my headquarters because...

    a) It IS crowded on matchdays . . if I wanted to watch a match by myself, I'd stay home. There's an experience you get there you won't get anywhere else in NYC.

    b) The European contingent is more apt to show up there, so you get to watch the match with some of the hardcore cats who have put in their dues at the Cottage. Good folks to make friends with.

    c) They have Carlsberg on tap, which is always a favorite at 7am.

    d) If Fulham is on TV, it's at Nevada's. There's no question about "whether we can get it on" because if its on, it's on. No questions asked.

    c) When we got beat by manchester united the second time last season, the bartender comped all my beers, haha. "No charge for Fulham today!" . . I was won over for life. He knows I'm there every weekend.

Anyway, not sure why there's a need for "alternatives" . . why split the NYC Fulham contingent anymore than it is already, lets unite. Nevada's is where the party's at every weekend without fail.

So, while you cats are looking for "alternatives", I will be at NS's with my pitiful posse (if they can wake up on time) on Sunday the 12th, bright and early (SEVEN IN THE MORN) for the Arsenal match. Be there or be square, friends. I'll be the tall shaven head dude wearing my colors - feel free to come slap me on the back and say what's up.

Um, er, uh, Nevada's isn't really the fave place. Yup, we've had our run-ins there. Here's a post from NJGlen:

On Sunday I had a run in with the younger barman who gave me a really hard time about putting the Fulham game on one of the TVs for the 1pm delay on FSC. My old man was in town and I was so happy to bring him into NYC to watch the game with a few pints and head for lunch afterwards. He really took the gloss of it and enjoyed his position of 'power'.

The barman was a real a-hole and gave me a really hard time before agreeing to put the game on. The problem is, I could not be rude back to him because I really wanted to see the game. I'd also think about staying away from the place, but its the best for watching football (with audible commentary) in NYC.

However, from now on I'd appreciate if any other FulhamUSA patrons at Nevada Smniths made sure not to tip the staff...I believe Mike has had his issues there too.

For me, there's too much testosterone, as well as too many idiots. Yes, I do realize that it is the only bar in NYC devoted to football. Fearless Leader (American Mike) also has his story, though I can't find the posting (regarding MU fans).

I'd rather try the Red Lion (Red Lion, Golden Lion . . . ) as I'd prefer a place that does food (no, I do not consider what Nevada's has to be "food"). I'm too old to have to deal with attitude from bartenders or patrons. If I wanted to get razzed by MU fans, I can stay in Queens; at least I know the Guinness is good and cheaper.

Not tip the bar staff? What kind of stupid suggestion is that? If they game is on and the bar staff do a good job, they deserve to be tipped, and tipped well.

Jack Keane is their "Director of Football" and sets up the match schedule every week, and I've had some great conversations with him and have been given many a free beer after a bad Fulham match. Guys like him, the lively atmosphere, and the good beer are reasons why I continue to return.

I'm sure people have had bad experiences, and I'm sure there have been problems with other fans. I've had my share of run-ins with Man U fans, but I still yell just as loud whether I'm the only Fulham supporter on match day or not.

Honestly, I'd rather be at a bar with 50 Man U fans and be the only Fulham fan, than be at a bar with 2 or 3 other rare-show Fulham supporters at a bar with comparable or non-existent opposing support.

I personally think NYC fans should unite, and unite at the livest bar in this town. And that bar ain't the Red Lion or Baker Street, I'm absolutely sure of it. Case in point, none of those bars will be open at 7am on opening day. Whatevs, bros . . like I said, be there or be square.

    SEE YA AT 7!

When I was living in NJ I would go to Nevada Smiths pretty much every Saturday morning and enjoyed the place although it did sometimes get a bit too much for me when loads of Manure, Scum, or Arse fans were running around bandwagonning but that probably solidified me as a Fulham supporter. I met a lot of Fulham ‘locals’ there over the years who were on holiday and I’d love to see Fulham fans getting together again. I think the most we ever pulled together at Baker Street pub (on 61st and 1st) was 10 so having even more in Nevadas would spread the love.

Jack is a nice guy and the two incidences I had there was the night Bouba put ‘that’ shot in at the Cottage vs. Man U. I might of provoked it slightly by celebrating a bit much but it was no reason to stop serving me. A lone Fulham fan excited by a goal like that should be expected!

The second incident was with one of the younger bartenders who confronted one of my best friends, Smokin’ (also on this site) about, yup you guessed it, tipping! He said we hadn’t tipped enough but we were one 2 of 12 total people to watch the Fulham match so it was a slow morning and this kid was probably mad. The kid was just getting more and more mad so we threw $10 at him just to shut him up. Probably the same kid NJGlen had a problem with!

Overall, I would rather have a place for Fulham fans to go to be together in NY, than to have us separated. Much better in numbers and I see you point…your comments are always welcomed here sublicon. COYW's!

Word, Mike. I get you, but what can ya do? I let out a shout when we get a goal, and I leave it at that. We're outnumbered everytime, the Arsenal, Man U, and Chelsea fans never shut their mouths anyway. Can't expect them to see it from our perspective, I guess.

As for the tipping, that's really funny. I'd love for that to happen to me, it would be hilarious. One of my old bosses is English, so anytime I have any kind of awkward run-in with English/Irish dudes I immediately see his head on their shoulders, and its on.

Glad my comments are welcome, you know I like to deliver them! My only real point is that Nevada's is reliable, and is open early. I can tell there aren't a lot of Nevada's fans, but if anyone's looking to not watch alone, you can count on your boy Geoff to be at Nevada's unless some extenuating circumstance keeps me away for a weekend.

I'll make it a point to post for the NYC cats, just to let everyone know we'll be there. We need to show up in numbers, especially for the big matches. I'm expecting butts in seats at 7am on Sunday the 12th!!!!

Hey man, I know there are assholes everywhere and NYC is not exempt. I gotta say I'm glad to see there is someone from Fulham representing for us at Nevadas, we've been a silent minority for too long! The missus and me are back in NY from the 16th - 26th August but don't think there are any FFC televised matches, if there are. I'll see you at Nevadas...first round on me.

I will give Nevada's one thing, if anything, and its that they are reliable.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure if the Red Lion opens early enough for the 7am EDT Arsenal game. I haven't been to Nevada Smith's in a while, so I'll give it a shot next weekend (holy crap, is it really that soon?).

Mike: Me and a Bolton fan friend of mine (sort of, he's Greek and they have Stelios Giannakopoulos, who are we to argue) will be at the bar on the 16th for the same-day delay. Match will be on at 5pm.

jmh: Excellent, look out for me matey. I'll be chugging a coffee and scarfing down a bagel. Wearin white! Here's to being drunk by 8 am!

I am a regular at Nevada Smith's when Fulham is on (and when I can make it). I'll be there on August 12 with bells on.

Well...maybe not bells, but hopefully my new Fulham shirt which should arrive this week!
