LCD Vs. Plasma

So who has done their research with regard to televisions and the pros/cons of different LCD vs. Plasma.

Any all your wisdom is welcome...

 

Are you in the market for a new set Mike?

I have an LCD monitor for my computer and I absolutely love it.

Brightness, Contrast and Color goes to Plasma...Plasma screen have individual pixels that turn on or off depending on what is televised, but an LCD monitor relies on a backlight...darkness is a necessity in the LCD's case.

At this time Plasma screens are much larger than their LCD counterparts, but the LCD screen sizes are slowly catching up.

Price wise LCD is cheaper, but not necessarily the better buy. Reaction time to what takes place on the screen goes to Plasma as well...LCD screen have a slower response time and not always allow a seamless flow on the screen.

LCD's main advantage is in real world spots. Plasma screen have a special glass that dulls light while LCD monitors don't. Picture in normal everyday circumstances may come across better on a LCD picture.

 

I'm a plasma guy... when I was doing my shopping I looked at both and just found the day-to-day picture quality to be brighter and sharper with the plasma. I haven't had any sports viewing issues since I got it, but I got it with the full HD 1080i...

The only complaint that I have on the plasma is that it gets really hot when it's been on for a few hours... In terms of total hours before you have issues, it's about the same... you just have to watch out for burn-in on the plasma...

 

LCD has better viewing angles and is more easily viewable in rooms with a lot of light. Plasma will give you a reflection making the picture hard to see at times unless your room is nice and dark.

I have a 47" Vizio 1080p LCD from Costco and really like it.

Keep in mind, the nicer regular programming looks, the less HD capability the set probably has.

I have a 42" Sony LCD and love it. If you are doing your shopping in the UK I did a lot or running around, comparing prices and went with Pixmania. I have now ordered a few things from them and had no issues what so ever.

I viewed in a shop before making my purchase, and the set looked smaller in the context of its surroundings. If you are planning on getting a big screen I would suggest getting a cardboard box, cut out the size of the TV and put it in your room.
