Y'all need to read Pettyfog's article about the Korean electronic giants, Chelsea, us, and Lee.

Yet another reason to keep all things Samsung out of my house. The situation 'fog talks about is similar to the concerns during the last WC that the Brazil team was sponsored by one shoe manufacturer and several high profile Brazil team MEMBERS were sponsored by others.

Here in the states we've already seen international sponsors trying to hide ads for their competitors on hoardings.

Good reasearch, 'fog. Thanks for checking all this stuff out for us.

Yer welcome, bud.... I'm amazed by the reaction of the boards to this. It has nuffink to do with Chelsea wanting him.

Guess you have to be a 'freemarket' conservative to understand this stuff. Or else have an interest in more than just footy.

    Falls under "How Stuff Works"

OTOH, though I just switched from a Samsung mobile {sprint} to an LG {Verizon} phone, that ALSO had nothing to do with Chelsea.

The LG 5300 is a great cheap phone, btw... LONG battery life and all the basic bells you need.

    Indeed good article fog.

Not sure about the having to be a free market conservative to understand the ills ( in this case it is most certainly ills) of the free market comment!

    But good article.

Didnt SAY it was an 'Ill'... do you REALLY think a state owned/sponsored company wouldnt do the same?

We're getting close to 'Anything goes' but look what Chavez tried to pull off with Citgo!

speaking of free market conservatism and branding, my fair city has been home to more than a couple CBB finals four, and it's always interesting to see the covering of bustop bench ads and poster size ads on buildings that AREN'T part of the sponsorship package. It all gets cleared up afterwards. I used to be angered by all of it, but I realized that the exterior shots of the downtown area during finals four, the Alamo Bowl, and NBA championships tends to bring in a bunch of tourist money. Who cares if it's restraint of free trade?

Interesting reading PF, think what would happen if our Big 3 leagues went w/corporate sponsored jerseys??

As a Trailblazer fan besides being overjoyed w/the crazy luck to get the #1 pick, the agent for Oden had to be seeing $$ knowing that Nike HAS to sponsor Oden's gear or else suffer major humilation in their own hometown.

    Ok, point taken supremo fog.

Here’s a question, when AIG becomes the ManU kit sponsor they say they're not buying England or Europe they're buying Asia. So when an Asian company such as LG or Samsung come in are they buying Asia as well or Europe?

Great read fog and it is amazing the amount of clout corporate shirt sponsors have in modern sports. I honestly never really gave the topic that much though until your article. Shame to see so much emphasis placed on the ol' might buck, but it is what drives the game, clubs and players today.

Really nice article fog. I don't know how Lee feels about *potentially* becoming a marketing tool, but everybody's going to think that he's nothing more than that. He's got a good left foot, but he sure as hell isn't good enough for any of the top sides in the Prem.

No matter, I couldn't care less which team he signs for -- give me Sony any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

Heh... Having religiously expected Sony to "get it right NEXT time" for almost
fifteen years before swearing a fatwa on them, there will NEVER EVER be another Sony product charge on my credit.. or in my house.

Best luck I, should say 'WE' because my kids have learned it wasnt just a gremlin in this house, ever had with anything from Sony was a Hi-8 Camcorder.

By no means do I intend for this to be a rant where I try to impose my views on anyone. We're all adults, we can formulate our own opinions and make our own decisions. I 'm just a bit surprised no one has made mention of a certain other company who makes products for a certain team. They'll tell you everything is different, and they're business practices have changed. Even point out the great work that's being done in developing countries. In my mind it's the same rhetoric the tocacco companies are trying to cram down your throat. I haven't given them a dime since I bought a Bo Jackson"Just Do it" shirt. But that's just me.

Jessica Alba, Cheryl Tweedy, Beyonce, and on and on, they're all overrated. Eva Green is pure class, pure quality :3d nervous:
