    Just to mix things up:

    ------------------Howard-------------------
    --Spector---DeMerit---Boca---Bornstein--
    --Clark--------Mastroeni-------Feilhaber--
    ---Donovan------------------Beasley------
    ----------------Dempsey--------------------

Except I like Dempsey to play behind the target forward usually, but this lineup could work well.

Would be a more conservative approach with that lineup, but I think if good service was provided by the 3 mids over the back line that side would score a fair amount of goals.

Still a fan of the 4-4-2 for the national side.

At the half it's Canada 3 - Guatemala 0. Ali Gerba netted twice for Canada, and it's not looking good for Guatemala.

Every time I flip the channel between Univision and NBC (watching the carnage that is otherwise known as the US Open) the Canucks have scored again.

Seeing the support they have and some pretty solid players (De Rosario, De Guzman, Salteri, etc.) it blows my mind that they haven't even made it past the first round of WC qualifying. They are the team that can make a push at the Big 2 or at least challenge the Ticos for the 3rd automatic spot.

Agree PCB, but I think that our 2010 strike corps is going to come out of our youth squad. Don't forget Johann Smith, by the way. I think we'll probably choose among Altidore, Davies, Johnson, Smith, and Cooper in SA. In the meantime, we seem to be scoring a lot of goals with 1, 2, or 3 midfielders up front, so!!!!!

    USA USA USA.

45 minutes more of cooking shows, and then I can switch to FSC for fitba! [It's called being married, guys].

30 Minute Meals, Malto Mario, Iron Chef, Food Nation...whats your choice?

Personally I am a 30 minute meals fan. Oh Rachel Ray...

Anyone going to be in the chat room during the US v. Panama match?

good first half with some great touches by Dempsey. I hope someone from Fulham is watching. That through ball from Beasley to Donovan in the 23rd minute [with his right foot!] should have been enough to get him signed to a EPL contract right there.

Twellman? Sigh; come on you Terrapin; do better than that!

Gooch? That was no card, but I think that's what's going to dog him throughout his career. Playing well, but I hope he's subbed at the half.

I also expect Hejduk -- MOTFH -- to be subbed, and he's been great.

That hand ball that stopped the through ball to Twellman still is making me mad.

Kind of wish Bradly hadn't started, but sort of expected it since Feilhaber probably needs a rest.

Final score 2-1. I thought we didn't really play well.

I thought the defense was solid, but we missed a LOT of chances up front. My MOTM is Boca.

Of course, I didn't see the last 10 minutes so I missed the Panama goal

Missed chances was the story of the first half and the scoreline should of been quite different going into the half. The defense did a solid job dealing with an opponent with loads of pace.

Great job by Boca scoring his goals and he wore the armband once again so congrats to him. Deuce...how do you blow that sitter?

Canada looked solid today and I am looking forward to the semi this thursday.

At least you got to watch. After a morning of the Food Network, I got to do family time at the pool (which I am not complaining about). But that 3:00 p.m. central time was a killer for my schedule.

Just have to wait for ESPN's 5 seconds of highlights, since I am TiVo challenged.

Just glad we won. Should we request Molsen or LaBatts from the Canucks??

Yes, everyone loves a cold LaBatt.

The Canucks looked sharp today. They should be a solid test for the yanks and Ruiz once again threw a cheap shot at a defender. He elbowed their CB and busted his head wide open. Ruiz=Prick

Very good game. Bradley played very well swithcing fields well and finding the open man. Beasley will find a good club to go to. He is playing very well. Duece played extremely well, Fulham fans should be excited. They should win this easily IMO, CONCOCAF is not a challenge for them, I wish they would bring a full squad to COPA America.

Unfortunately for the USMNT most European clubs will begin training around the same time the Gold Cup concludes. Meaning a fair bit of our side will be gone. Too bad, because I thought they would have a fair shout to make it out of the group stage.

Dempsey played well for the majority of the game, some fantastic passes and he linked up well with his teammates. How on Earth did he not even get a shot off for that sitter? Disappointing...

Bradley hopefully showed many that he does have what it takes to compete at this level. I know it is only one game, but many people judged him off the last two matches in the group phase as unworthy of having a significant role in the squad. He did a fine job tonight.

Beasley provided some great service and set up Boca's goal brilliantly off the set piece. Sincerely hope he ends up in the prem and isn't wasted in the SPL. Come on Fulham...he is begging for a contract.

Guadaloupe beat Honduras to advance to the Semis. Mexico played like crap, but still advanced as their opponents were a man down for most of the second half (and eventually lost even more after Mexico finally scored).

    updated with semis.

The winner of the Gold Cup will assuredly come out of the US v. Canada semi final. Both sides seem to be playing quite well, but I can't see the Canucks beating the yanks.

Really hope the small French region can topple Mexico to make it to the final. Bit of a Cinderella story.
