The gears of the Internet appearing in your living room soon

Borg Warner, Bendix, TRW, Moog.....

Names the average car buyer never heard of but intrinsic in the product. And car geeks know them very well.

Just like Cisco in the world of the 'net. Almost everything you do on the net touches multiple Cisco products and installations.

And only IT geeks and tech-stock fanciers know anything about them.

But that's about to change... chances are if you're on broadband or have digital cable or satellite, you already have Cisco products, but know them by the name 'Linksys' or 'Scientific-Atlanta'. Which Cisco bought in the last few years.

Now Cisco's decided they want the 'fame and name recognition' that goes along with 'fortune'.

The good news is they see all information and entertainment services coalescing into several interchangeable transmission technologies.. and want to 'streamline' the availability of the 'package services' such as TV, Telephone, and Internet services.

'One box does it all', in other words...

I like how they are planning on combining telephone, cable and internet services. Hopefully it will make it cheaper and more simple for the consumer to use.

It's a pretty simple migration, though the one thing holding you back is the current broadband connection speeds people have... I've checked prices on a Verizon fiber optic connection, and it isn't THAT bad, around $60/month... considering the amount you will likely save with discounted IP-driven phone and TV, it would probably still be well worth it...

A fiber optic connection running 20 megabits/sec would be ample for connecting broadband internet, VoIP phone, and High Def IPTV... Microsoft is already looking into the IPTV market, they already have over 11 million boxes that are set up for it in living rooms around the world, they are known as "Xbox 360"
