They remind me of Sheffield United. It is quite a windfall for Derby County considering their precarious financial position just a few years ago. They'll want to proceed carefully and not go on a spending spree just to stay up.

It wouldn't surprise me if they are playing for survival right up to the final match of next season. The difference between them and the Blades will be the manager: Billy Davies will not lose his nerve when everything is on the line. His team will be ready for that kind of match.

Whatever happens to them, they need to keep Davies around. He's one of those managers who gets more out of less.

    Revenge on Derby

I for one wanted Derby to go up and the sole reason for this is so Fulham can get another two changes to exact some revenge on the injustice Fulham was served in a match in the 82/83 season when FFC faced Derby.

    This lives in Fulham folklore...

Mike, thanks for the scoop. I'd read several people talking about that match but did not know what had happened.

I'm surprised the League didn't punish Derby in some way for their supporters. That is an example of cockeyed justice. The year Manchester United were relegated I believe their fans tried a pitch invasion to force a replay of a match they were certain to lose. (Manchester United? Relegated? Man that sounds sweet! Would've enjoyed watching that.)

I would like to think a club couldn't get away with that now. But after the Wimbledon move and the West Ham business, I'm not 100% certain the decision would be different.

The FA is a self-serving organization. If it is within their best interest to prefer one side to another they will do so. It is an utter shame...
