I'll toss a few names out ...

Dennis Rommedahl is supposedly leaving Charlton. He could play left mid. Steve Sidwell is expected to be available. He is probably out of our price range and we have a bit of a logjam at central mid anyway. Maybe DaMarcus Beasley? He has been a little less terrible lately. Mathieu Bodmer from Lille may also be on the market. He's a nice player and left-footed, I think.

As far as defenders, there are the old Distin and Tomas Ujfalusi rumors. Distin is OK but I don't know a lot about Ujfalusi. I think we need to pony up for some real quality here.

The Lawrie Sanchez-David Healy link is well known. I don't really know that much about him other than he has scored a few goals in the CCC. Maybe we will make a run at Darren Bent. Where does Chun Soo Lee fit in?

Casey Keller is leaving Borussia M'gladbach. He has a few good years left in him. Probably too expensive and ambitious to be a back-up, though.

Before I get into names, I will give my grocery list of needs for this club.

TWO central defenders!! Our current crop of center halves are not cutting it and the defense has held us back the last few seasons. Whether Distin, Ujafalusi or any other experienced center half, we need major help in this area. This is the position we need the most urgent help in. If we do NOT buy any defenders, it will be the same old results next season. You can take that to the bank.

Pacey Striker - McBride has been great in his time at Fulham but next season will be his last and to be honest with you I am not sure how much we can expect to keep getting out of him in terms of goals. We need to get a striker in here that can and will score Premiership goals. Perhaps David Healy would be okay, but I want someone a bit stronger. I would love to see the club go after Darren Bent, but we will surely be priced out of range. David Nugent is the guy I would really like us to get, but once again, we will probably be priced out of range.

Unfortunately, strikers are expensive. I do not want to see us get another foreigner that is young, inexperienced and one we have no plan on using right now like Runstrom. We need help up front and we need help up front now.

LEFT-SIDED Winger - We need a player that can run at players and cause problems on the left side of midfield. Who that is, I am not quite sure. Rommedahl was mentioned above, but he has never shown any consistency and worth in the Premiership. I had high expectations of him when he joined Charlton a few years back but he has been rubbish. There was a rumour about Matthew Etherington coming over from West Ham. He is not bad and I would be happy if we got him.

It will be interesting to see what the club does this summer. They better spend some money or next year could be even worse than this year.

Other than one CB, a lefty winger, and a quality 'back to the goal striker', what we REALLY need is quality coaching.

I think that's the overwhelming factor. This current team could easily have been in the top ten if they had some form.

eh...and maybe a ten-shirt that can be counted on..

I agree with Tom's summation above. Spot on.

 

I JUST went through a -blow the team up- experience, which I allude to in the other thread. NEVER want to see that happen with Fulham. And I dont think it will.

Granted you dont exactly espouse that but it takes time for any team to jell {not 'jam'} and I'd rather replace the weak links in bits.

 

We need alot of things to become a top quality team and this will take some cash. If Mo is willing to spend like a Premiership club we should challenge for Europe. We need the following.


Pacy Striker-I will assume that Lee Chun Soo will be that striker. He is decent from what I have seen so this could be a good signing.

Ball in the back of the net striker- We need a player who can score goals in this league. This is important as Mcbride is starting to show that he is getting old. We need to let Helguson and John leave and replace them. Soo can replace John as the pacy striker that can come off the bench. David Healy will score goals if he can find the right team and with Sanchez at manager this could be that team. If he fulfills his potential we could have one of the best strikers in Europe. That may be reaching a little bit, but look at what he does for Northern Ireland. He scores against the best teams in Europe and most of the time is the best player on the pitch.

Left sided winger- I like Mark Gonzalas from Liverpool. They surely will spend money which means they will have to let go of some players. He is pacy and has plenty of tricks and could do well in this league.

Central defenders. We need quality defenders and Distin and Alvaro Meija from Real Madrid would be decent signings. This would be a good cheap way to solve our defensive problems.

We need to spend money and we will do well. If we keep spending like we do then we will go down or at best be a mid-table Premiership team.We have the potential to be a really good team and now we need to fulfill that potential.

 

Hi there, this is my first post. I'm a sometimes read through and visit this site and I like it.

I believe that Fulham wouldn't have signed Lee Chun Soo unless Sanchez or a new manager was coming in more or less straight after the season. Also I think the timing is right to announce Sanchez as Fulham coach for the forseeable future at least as, it will in my opinion, give some players another kick up the arse and try extra hard to perform on Sunday against Middlesbrough.

On the transfer situation I don't think that Sanchez would be comfortable spending say five million pounds on prima donna players who only play when they want to and will instead probably limit himself to a three million pound signing which I believe could be Aston Villas Northern Irish midfielder, Steven Davis. Also I would expect perhaps David Healy and Kyle Lafferty to come in, both forwards and both Northern Irish. I also think Sanchez will invest in the defence and perhaps Sanchez key signings could be his backroom staff i.e. Les Reed and some of his own scouts perhaps Gery Armstrong scouring La Liga?

 

If Lee Chung Soo has the speed without the innate ability to go offsides constantly and miss possibilities (coughJOHNcough), Fulham may be set for two good (or good enough?) strikers. Though a third striker to come on as a sub or as an eventual replacement for McBride would be wise now. McBride is great, but can he really continue to be the goal scoring machine as he gets older? I'm not so sure, sad to say.

But the BIGGEST need is defense. FFC needs CBs. If MAF is going to let Sanchez splash the cash, I want defenders. I do not want to see at least two of Knight, Christanval, and Pearce on the backline for FFC anymore. If Queudrue is done, than a LB is necessary as well.

A left side midfielder would also be a good idea, but defense and striker come first in my opinion. The midfield should be fine next season should Bullard return and stay healthy.

I do have one question that doesn't echo what someone else has already said: Is there anyone from the youth team or reserves that can step up and fill these needs? In a way, I hope so, if only to save the club some money. On the other hand, I have no idea who is available there, much less any quality players.

 

I can see two more Yanks coming to the squad. Gooch and DeMerit would be good pick-ups. Then Lee Chun-soo could compliment McBride. Is Bullard a CM or can he play LM?

 

Bullard is best in the center of midfield. He can control matches from that position and I would hate to see him play anywhere else. That is by far his best position.

 

According to the Mirror, Newcastle wants Zat and we want to replace him with Portsmouth's Andy O'Brien. O'Brien hasn't played much this season and has been left off the Ireland squad for their last few Euro qualifiers. I expect he would be glad to move to a club where he would play more. He could be had on the cheap. And I will take whatever we can get for Zat.

5 million pounds for Knight? Does anyone else think that sounds a bit... generous?

Also, does anyone know of a list somewhere that contains information regarding who's out of contract when? Similar to this site which provides information about the NHL.

 

5 million isnt generous if they think they can polish that stone.

LS should consider it, though. It may be too late for Zat here, but just watch the crying on the offal if some club gives him the coaching he needs.

Jan Lastuvka has returned to Shakhtar Donetsk after Fulham decided against signing the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

The 24-year-old made 12 appearances in his role as deputy to first-choice Antti Niemi but Lawrie Sanchez opted out of a move for the €4million (£2.75million) rated player.

The Czech admits he did not enjoy the best of seasons while in the Premiership after finding it hard to settle in West London.

"I know it has not been good. It did not help that I could not have my family with me," Lastuvka told CTK.

Lastuvka has two years remaining on his Shakhtar contract but does not know what the future holds.

"I don't know anything specific yet. I have not decided whether I will stay with Shakhtar or go somewhere else."

 

His agent must be havin' a laugh thinking this keeper is worth that kind of money. That is one of the funnier things I have read in quite some time. Lastuvka was pants and he did NOTHING for me to think he was Premiership quality, let alone even Coca-Cola Championship quality.
