From the BS Crew thread on the subject:

It certainly wasnt true 5 and 7 years ago, either. Crew hired a couple stiffs that proved the point.. both ended up going back to their previous clubs.

You dont see Steve Nichol doing that crap... game set match! And then there's Eddie Johnson.....

only somewhat related: Real Madrid win again today to move into 2nd in LaLiga -- 2 points behind Barca. They've won 6 of 7 since Beckham came back from injury.

Debunkers of MLS and the Beckham trade need to realize that in Beckham they're getting a guy who's one of the most influential players on one of the best and hottest teams in one of the three best leagues in the world. I also think that most of the British press has cottoned on to the fact that he should still be playing for England. I think the MLS's recent "overseas" acquisitions are good solid players with still a lot to give. I think there'll be a higher level of play overall before this season is over.

Not that the press will figure that out.

Note: biggest bargains of the year

Kenny Cooper for 80k; Chad Marshall for 100k.

    MLS Raises and paycuts

    From Goff's Soccerinsider:
Now Maybe troy Perkins can quit his day job {mortgage banker} for a while.

Andy Williams would be overpaid at $32,000

Thornton took a big hit, but probably deserved, and Busch will be a long time coming back to form if ever.

Martino should never have made over 55K.

And Frankie Hejduk just loves to play and loves Columbus.

He heads to LA when he gets a chance and mooches off surf-buddies, maybe he makes his fare by teaching {hawwwwk, ptuui!} Martino...

Some of those salaries are shocking. It truly shows how far the MLS is behind other American sports. A base minimum salary of 12,900...isn't that below the poverty line?

Clubs from over seas, if they would look at the prices of some of these players they could get away with some steals. Cooper, De Rosario, Altidore, O'Rourke, Edu, the list goes one...
