Hey Everybody, apologies if this has been discussed already, but I came across this article on the BBC, where Fulham fan Will Brooks created a website where he wants to mobilize 50,000 fans to come together and purchase an English football club. Once he has 50,000 people, each person puts in 35 pounds (70 usd roughly?), hopefully amassing a bit over 1.3 million pounds. This money will then be used to purchase majority share in a football team (which is voted by the fans, and is available for takeover). The club will then be owned, and run by the 50,000 owners, democratically. According to Will, player selection, transfers, sponsors, kit makers, etc will all be entirley decided by the owners, through voting. A pretty intriguing concept if you ask me. I've registered, and I would defintley recommend the same. I've linked to the article and website below. Check it out! Who knows the possibilities?

Yeah, it works so well they wouldn't trade a 4th round pick for Randy Moss... brilliant system... Too much beer and too much cheese.

I'd throw in my 70 bucks if they promised to buy Cardiff and then petition the FA for permission to resign from the league and join the league of Wales.

... or maybe Leeds ...; or maybe ...

I registered. Leeds would be a good choice - they are supposed to be close to being debt free, and tho thy dont own the stadium - there is a large one for them to play in that could pull a good number of fans when they go top flight again.

In college I had a teammate and roomate from England - HUGE Leeds fan. I hope he doesnt see this thread - I would never hear the end of it! :)

Jensers, I watched quite a few matches at Elland Road in the early 70s. There was a HUGE American supporters' club that a friend's brother belonged to. We used to travel up there and go to matches in a coach festooned w/Leeds banners. The head of the club wore a cowboy hat with a Leeds scarf for a band. The TV cameras almost always found him.

They had a fantastic team at the time, and the place was almost always packed, but times have changed. For instance, during that same period, one of the most powerful teams that played in -- consensus -- the best stadium in the country was Sheffield Wednesday, and they only recently got out of League 1.

    It's the way of things.

I really don't see 2,000,000+ American dollars buying a Championship outfit. They are going to have to look into the netherworlds of the league 2 and the conference. Then after that they have to make sure the club is debt free......in those leagues I doubt it!

Then there are grounds issues, sponsors, and all that mess. It is a good idea that I hope takes off. I am all for it if they find the right club to experiment with.

I got board and made a facebook group for it. I invited some of my UK friends in. We'll see if a bunch of college kids want to jump on board.

I mean, it can't hurt to register can it? Just to see what happens. 70 bucks is no big deal, I think I blew that much at the Bar last Sunday, when Adebayor buried that shot side-netting. I personally voted for Leeds as well, their minutes from administration from what I hear, although 3 million bucks isn't going to quite cut it. Cambridge is an intriguing choice, potentially large fan base, good history, within a reasonable price range, so who knows, but I'm hoping this works.
