Sigi Schmidt opens this season with the team he might have wished for early last year. I confess, though, that I havent been watching all the churn and turnover all that closely... sort of being afraid to watch and hope.

Jon Busch, who'd been our brilliant GK was cut loose late in preseason which drew a lot of fan comment, mostly negative and some bitter words from Busch. But subsequently he was signed then released by Toronto, then bounced through a couple tryouts with other clubs before being signed last week by the Fire. I'm thinking Sigi was right. Jonny Walker retired, earlier, as the other marquee GK, after being told another injury would have lasting effects.

Duncan Oughton.. who got back from rehab middle last season and was made captain his first game on the pitch, is still healthy and will provide much of the spark in the mid. Danny Szetela is not on bench due to groin strain.. AGAIN!

Players to watch, Ricardo Virtuoso - brilliant young Brazilian

Andy Herron - great last year with Fire but a loose cannon?

Robbie Rogers - Back from Low countries... sort of like the Donovan clause.

Game conditions tonight expected to be 30 deg and flurries. Yeah, MLS ought to play a winter schedule!
I'm old and was a wuss even when I was a kid in these conditions. If there's wind blowing, I'm probably staying home.

I watched this game live on HD Net.

Red Bulls midfield looks good, but couldn't get a finishing attacking going.

    John Wolyneic SUCKS.

    NY needs a striker badly.

Heh... the highlight of last crew season, other than the Dallas ambush and Virtuoso, plus Oughton coming back... was the Woly/ Martino trade for Ngwenya and Grabavoy.

Final stamp on 'reasons Steve Sampson should never again be allowed a high profile coaching job'.

If Andy Gruenebaum can play that well all year we won't have to worry about the keeper position, now all we need is someone who can put the ball in the net.

I would like to see what Kei Kamara and Robbie Rogers can do up front for us.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Playmaking forward Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who has won 15 titles with famed Argentina club Boca Juniors, is considering becoming the latest high-profile player to jump to the United States' Major League Soccer, two major newspapers reported Tuesday.

La Nacion newspaper said Barros Schelotto was still analyzing the US$2 million (€1.5 million) offer but seemed just "a step away from emigrating" to the Columbus Crew.

You guys played well. And it seems you may have found a keeper. I think Metros should experiment with a 4-4-1-1 formation with Mathis as a CAM-Forward.
