so i'm in an indoor league...and our first game we got humiliated 13-0. Now i hate excuse makers so i'm going to hate on myself for a minute and say we did play a team that was made up of college players (this is a co-ed league keep in mind) and every time the girls score it's worth two points....which is complete crap cuz their girls were better then our guys, and those fools should've been in a higher division. the best part is after we were left picking our shorts up off the turf, the lady in charge comes up and says, "they should be in a higher division...so i'm moving them." thanks lady...thanks. gay and homo!!!!

ok...so the idea for this thread is, what is the biggest humiliation you've experienced in a sports scene...be it as a player, coach, spectator, or whatever? it can be getting crushed like we did, an injury, or just some random bizaare incident.

Heh.... something like it... except I was on the 'giving end', as coach.

YMCA winter youth rec coed 5 a side 'fun league', on a BBALL court using the oversized tennis ball and 4x5 foot goals.
My 5 boy players were from my U-14 club, but it was the town's 'second tier' select club for the age group. My 4 girls were the best players from the ONLY girls U-14 club and all ended up, later, starting on Varsity as HS sophs.

But the rules were 'At least 2 girls on court' at any given time, unlimited subbing. We started slow in the season and actuallly got beat a couple times... but by the end, did pretty well and ended season second to my 2nd Cousin's (whom I had heard of but never met) team from a few miles away.

So the program stated the top 4 teams met in a tournament ... we both beat 3 and 4 pretty easily, and the next week met for the tournament final.

At the half, we were down by one goal... I met with all the parents in attendance and asked if they wanted me to continue platooning the kids in and out or did they want the team to win?

All their kids had been on at least twice and they said go for it.

At about a minute into the second half, I pulled the two boy floor players off and sent in the other 2 girls. Which rattled the other team so much we scored about 15 seconds later.

Which, of course, caused my cousin to jump up and start screaming at me and the ref, who was also the organizer.

I looked at my team parents and they were laffing their asses off.

So we adjourned to the office where I was charged with rule violation.... I responded with the obvious; that I had at least two girls on... which of course caused one very purple face.
    {I didnt know he had heart problems till I told my dad about it, later}
The organizer asked me to abide by the spirit of the rules, I replied that the spirit of the rules was 'Boys are better players than girls'.

Hmmmmm. Then I was charged with sub-rules violation...I pointed out that all the players had been on at least 10 minutes.

Of course THEN it degraded into charges of 'ringer players' etc but I HAD played some of their boys in the summer and we got our asses kicked, but I said fine... how about we just dont keep score, just play it out.. and call the game a draw.

So that's what we did... but my name on the paternal side of the family was 'mud' from that point on.

The last time I coached in AYSO, we had a playoff match scheduled for when we couldn't use our best goalkeeper. Our 2nd best was waaaaaaaaaaay inferior to our starter, so our team was worried. I told them that the best way to protect our goalie was to keep the other team busy defending. If we forced all 11 of their players into defending, we stood a better chance of keeping them from scoring. In other words, I told them to attack even more than they were used to.

After listening to me long enough across the season for us to be 2nd in a 16-team league, the players decided that I didn't really know what I was talking about and after scoring in the first 5 minutes, decided to shut down. I screamed myself crazy during the 1st half and, for the first time all season, raised my voice to them at half time. But they were 12 and 13 and I was an old guy [37], so they went out in the second half and tried to keep 11 players behind the ball. With nothing to defend against, our opponents came for us. We gave up a goal just after half-time and another 10 minutes later. I kept screaming "attack, attack," they kept "defending," and we wound up losing 5-1.

As they left the field, they ignored me and our goalie. As I was collecting the equipment to turn back to the league, I heard our striker/team captain telling his parents that "coach and our stupid goalie" cost us a chance to win the trophy.

That was a pretty disgusting day, for certain.

Hi Omsdogg, Nice to be on the end of a hammering - and by girls!

My worse sporting moment was playing cricket, It was the first match of the season - I had just got a new bat (costing around $250 approx, it takes a while to prepare a bat for the first use so I had been anoying everyone all week getting it ready).

The first ball I faced I shoulder arms (this means that I lifted the bat out the way expecting the ball to go well wide of the stumps), instead the ball hit the off stump and I was out without playing a shot. Took heaps of abuse.

I did redeem myself later by taking the best catch of my career in the same match.

In the annual awards at the end of the season, I won the champagne moment for the catch, and a special mention for my batting.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Also, getting dropped from the school rugby team for cowerdice was a fairly low point. When I was 15, I started a 30 man brawl by stamping, and reduced it to 29 men when I skulked back out to my wing to watch. The coach saw me and was not impressed at my behaviour.

To this day, I still believe, if I had been beaten to a pulp he would have played me next week! I learned at that point that you reap what you sow!

I went to a Division 1 school for both Soccer and Track and Field. During the outdoor T&F season of my freshman year I drank heavily after a track meet, played some basketball and after dunking a basketball I slipped off the rim, shattering my wrist and breaking my elbow. Ending that season abruptly.

I'll get back to you on humiliating team performance.

My senior year of high school in the second round of the state football playoffs. We had easily won the conference and were one of the favorites to win the state championship. We defeated the defending state champs in the first round and played a team we had easily beaten already in the regular season 29-14. That score was not indicative of how bad we spanked them.

However, the playoff game did not go as expected. We lost 36-8 in an embarassing display on the field. We were shocked and for that to be my last high school football game leaves a rather sour taste in my mouth.

After giving up playing Soccer 10 years earlier I agreed to play in a "Dads" match while the kids sat on the side giving the "Dads" the abuse. the game began after 7 minutes I tore my achilles in half and had to go to the hospital where I underwent surgery. The kids never forgave me because I was the one giving them abuse all season and they felt hard done by with me only allowing then 7 minutes.

Congressional Softball...I played on a decent team a couple years ago, but there's always a team that enters the league with a few ringers. I don't remember the final score, but it something along the lines of 25-4. It was hot, muggy, about to thunderstorm, and I was the pitcher. I was sweating like a little pigglet and not having a good time. After throwing nice little lobs for the opposition to hit long balls, I started throwing the ball a bit off the strike zone (but still hitable--there's no balls or strikes in the league, as there were no umps) in a hope of inducing some outs. They started to complain and wouldn't swing at the pitches. Then asked for me to throw the nice little lobs that I was before 10 runs they scored. Jerkoffs. I asked them if they I should just place the ball on a tee for them, so it would be easier on them and me. I think they got the message. The the thing that annoys me about teams like that is they run up the score for ego purposes--stretching singles into doubles and so forth after the game has been decided in the 1st inning. Grrr.

Well its good to see were all thinking happy thoughts here :D

I have a few embarassing moments. An 18-0 high school soccer defeat qualifys.
The worst however was in my first game of traveling hockey. I was a squirt all excited for the big time, we were in a tournament, and played a team from Des Moine in the first game, we lost 20-0:shock:

I couldn't belive it, to suffer such a massacure to a team from Iowa! I didn't even know they played Hockey there. I faced many a defeat in my youth hockey days but never again as bad as that.

My most embarassing sports moment came while playing defense for my high school football team. I was chasing a scrambling quarterback, and before I could get to him I was launched into the air (and eventually onto my ass) by a crack back block that I never saw coming. Worse yet the whole crowd let out a resounding OOOOH! and the play was replayed about 7 times during our film session the next day. I didnt live that down my whole high school career.

great responses!!! I haven't had a chance to get on and read these til now, but i'm happy to report that my team came back and won last week 6-5...and went 2 of the final 3 minutes a player down for an infraction. The best part...and believe me i'll brag about this...was how I won us the game. We had a 3 on 1...and my teamate who never passes...decided to pass to me...and i was totally unprepared...so when it came, it was just me and the keeper 1 on 1...and i totally missed the ball since i was unprepared. BUT...my missing actually won us the game...because the keeper came out..and i recovered in time to scramble the ball back across goal...and my teammate Heather (not DC Heather) was right there in front of an open net...and girls get 2 points for scoring as opposed to one. so my miss allowed us to win 6-5. I told everyone i did it on purpose. :)

dude...i wouldn't wish that upon anybody...i do have to say though, that this by far is the funniest story...not because of the injury, but because of the thought of the kids on the sidelines harpin' on all the Dads. :)
