There have been several requests for help with avatar recently... not surprising, I get lost in it, too...
Read the Rules further down Then do this:

To Select or replace your avatar, you have to do it from 'my account' on left sidebar.

Then click 'Messageboard', go to 'profile' above forum index, scroll down and click 'from postnuke'.

    Here's the rules:
    * You may upload a personal avatar {image} to go with your displayed 'author-box'. To change it, you must upload another. Each personal avatar file is keyed to YOUR profile, changing it overwrites the old image file on the server
    * Please limit picture you intend to use as avatar to 200 pixels wide, maximum.
Because of code constraints it is not possible to resize photos in the site software.. doing so would result in distortion of width v height.
    * Even if you select an avatar from the gallery, it may be too big. That is no excuse.

For an example, look at anyone's avatar {right-click|properties} ; anything wider than 200 begins to push the "Author" column out.

    For jpg files:
If you dont know how to reduce - or dont have pix edit software-

It's best to crop then resize your avatar image using a photo editor, like Microsoft Photo Editor {resize by selecting pixels instead of inches} but if you dont have one or know how to use it...
Click here and download the helper to your desktop, then rename it {using right-click|rename} to:
    photoresize200.exe
    - You can change the width to any # pixels you want, just by changing that #.. example: 150 will give you an image 25% smaller.

Then all you have to do is drag a photo icon over the program icon and it will happen automatically.
Note: A separate copy of file, ending in -200 will be created

It is that 'name-200' file you want to upload. If you want to use an avatar from the gallery but it's too big, right-click it and 'save image as'. Then resize it as above and upload it.
    --------------------------------------------
Sig line: Ignore Sig in 'my account' {PostNuke} and the two postnuke buttons
Change it in your Forum Profile and scroll all the way down and click Submit

Yeah great for people who have avatars that are too large. What about those who upload theirs or even pick from the gallery and nothing at all works........

Did you read the whole post article? Or perhaps you took the words too literally.. I changed it to show you select the same way...You can bring your big FFC Badge avatar over to the forum, or change it, by reading and following this:

To explain, the main pages are software from 'PostNuke', however the forum module -PNphpBB2- is from a different bunch of geeks, it integrates with PostNuke because of 'Open Source Standards' but isnt tightly knit into the user attributes. That's why you have to do it in two steps.

BTW: Thanks for the reminder to make things like this 'idiot-proof'. Not a reflection on you, personally, it was badly written from the start. What happens when you just add lines for clarity instead of doing a total re-write.

I'm having the same issue. I know it has worked in firefox before though, since I don't have IE.

Ian while you were away we all decided that you should not be allowed to change the Landycakes avatar - that may explain why nothing at all works

PF can you tell me why I get the following message:
when I try to upload a photo named "Katiesleftfoot.jpg" in the avatar management screen?

The photo is on my harddrive and was downloaded and renamed from the photobucket picture posted above.
