    The other muppet rants:

Both on line and on Sky this week I've seen three bits of whining about the Christmas/New Years crunch and how it affects teams with small squads or niggling injuries. This whining comes from Prem managers. The most recent is from Harry Bloody Redknapp.

Here's the deal: English fitba has featured the Christmas/New Years crunch and the Easter/Spring bank holiday cruch FOREVER. It's how the wheat gets separated from the chaff. Maybe there should be a winter break; maybe there shouldn't. I'm a Yank; it's not my decision. But every Prem/CCC/League1/League2 manager knows that this is going to happen every year. If they don't want to deal with it, DON'T MANAGE IN ENGLAND!

Cheeze! Don't make me come over there.

My guess is that teams whose managers complain the most do the worst. To Harry ******* Redknapp, you're Portsmouth, you're sixth in the table, you're having a great season, so SHUT UP!!!! If your team falls apart know, you'll say it was the Christmas crunch. I'm saying that it will be because you put your team in a negative frame of mind.

Being a Tiger fan and watching Jim Leyland, I've learned a lot about how a good manager does his job. If Leyland managed an English football team, he'd say "that's the schedule, we know it going in, we now just have to win the games--deal with it."

I don't recall Cookie complaining about it, and given our injury situation, if there is a manager who has a right to complain, it's Cookie, not Harry "Gee, what big rival can I go and manage this week" Redknapp. Loser.

The Christmas run is very hard and I love it. More football than you can shake a stick at. I hate the idea of a winter break, even though the terrace can be bloody cold. A warm beer in a snug after a match is very much part of Christmas.

Chirstmas is generally a bad time of year for Fulham as we normally play football on the floor and the pitches can become bad. This year has been mild so the pitches are still good.

DaveNearDC is bang on when he says that the people who have the most to lose are fearful of the schedules. I hope Pompey slip down the table and into the Championship.

Being a native does not mean my opinion is any more or less valid. As a fan of a team, and a more loyal fan than many, the expressions sumbitted to this site are important and are often better thought out and expressed than most.
