Meanwhile, the Iraq Study Group report is released.

Summary: Engage the nations around Iraq to engage in the "Peace Process".

Ah, yes... and if we do that and are quick enough to convert to Islam, they might let us ride in the parade in the celebration Ahmadinejad is talking about

Petty, what are your suggestions to stopping Iran from possessing as George W. Bush would say "Nucular" weapons? I agree that the world is a more dangerous place with the Iranians possessing these bombs, but I do not see what we can really do to prevent it from happening.

There is no practical way to 'stop it' from the outside.

We probably have the weaponry to effect a 90% chance of destroying the near-term program. But that cannot be done, as Israel did it in Iraq in the 80's, without setting off a full-scale war.

We rely partially on 'second thoughts' as we did during the cold war... and, once 'Ach' proves he intends to actually use nukes, do a full scale propaganda blitz over Iran.
Letting Iraninans know, in no uncertain terms, that if a nuke is set oof anywhere and there's the least suspicion that Iran is involved.. that Teheran will be reduced to an uninhabitable smoldering ruin.
Not everyone in the Iranian Guvmint believes that Imam's in that well.

    That's it... all the options.

    Oh, there's a kicker..
I think/hope that the US actually has one or more SDI anti-ballistic systems deployed; despite SOME {guess who!} saying we shouldnt use it at all until it is thoroughly tested.

So if NKor should launch against us or Japan, there's a good chance it might be killed or damage minimized.

However if Iran launches, you can bet they will have the warhead arm at launch... because they simply dont care a whole lot WHERE it goes off.

Unless we hit the warhead itself, the result will be bad for us but..
    It's all win-win for them.

This to me sounds like an all out nuclear war. If that is the case, things do not bode well for the planet Earth.

Well, we could all convert to Islam.... but it better be Shia*; after all, who they gonna go for, next, after the Jews, Socialists Atheists and Christians?

    * And, of course, you better MEAN it, or they kill you anyway!

Heh... looks like I'm really hanging crepe here.

But I'm an optimist.. so I have to have some faith that the distribution of 'good' in mankind outweighs the distribution of 'evil' in the end. It always has, before, and I believe it will, now.

That does not mean there wont be SEVERE numbers and instances of death and turmoil but I dont think the radical islamists are going to win.

There's a real struggle for power in Iran, even now
