Less than two hours until Twins Magic continues on at the Dome! Johan Santana vs. Barry Zito... Gotta love two Cy Young winners going at it... especially when Santana is virtually automatic in the Dome. Must be something in the air...

Now if only I had a ticket... *sigh* Alas, it's ESPN GameCast for me!

and boo to the networks [and where are they headquaretered?] who seem only to think that the Mets and the Yankees are important.

Always glad to see the Tigers be the Yankee-killers again -- even if they're named Bonderman, Thames, and Rodriguez, rather than Lary, Foytack, and Mitchell!

I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed watching A-Rod choke against the Tigers. 1-for-14 with 4 K's and 0 RBI, and an error which gifted the Tigers a run in the final game. That was exactly the type of performance I was looking forward to see from him.

    Nice series, PayRod!

The ALCS has me in a bit of a bind, and in a perfect world, both teams would lose and I would win. I don't care for Oakland because of the divisional rivalry with the Mariners (though it hasn't been much of a rivalry lately)... and I dislike all teams named the Tigers, no matter what league they are in.

Oh well. For some reason I don't feel dissapointed at all. I wish the following players are gone next year:

Randy Johnson-Why did we sign him?
Carl Pavano-Chien-Ming Wang gets 19 wins this year and gets payed only $353,000 while Pavano doesn't play a sinlge game and makes $10M?
Gary Sheffield-He's too old. If Steinbrenner wants him then Cashman must resist!
A-Rod-He's good but not good enough for that $25M.

    The ones who are iffy:
Jason Giambi-Not a big fan of his defense. He's a good DH though but not 1B material.
Jaret Wright-Massive pay cut for him and he could become a solid 4th starter

Well, Pavano and Wright have guaranteed contracts and no one will take them, so they don't have a choice there--the Yanks are stuck with them. Johnson has one more year left on his deal. Sheffield has a club option; I have heard the team will probably turn it down.

If they want to trade A-Rod they have to be prepared to eat some of the 4 yr $64 million money they still owe him (Texas owes the rest) and be prepared to take 50 cents on the dollar (at best) for him. I heard one NY writer suggest getting young star starter Ervin Santana and top prospect Brandon Wood from the LA Angels for him. If they could get that deal, Yanks GM Brian Cashman would crawl on broken glass to LA to get it done. If they want Santana, they will have to give A-Rod PLUS something of value (not Pavano or Wright, either). The Tigers' success has made young pitching a premium.

We saw Chien-Ming Wang come up from the farm and look at him now. And Phillip Hughes looks good. In two years I think the staff will look like this:

    Chien-Ming Wang
    Mike Mussina
    Phillip Hughes
    Jaret Wright
    That Karstens guy

    That's the order.
