Hmm...would you be advocating violence if Foley were straight and sending naughty, disgusting texts and emails to a 16-17 year old girl? Yes, Foley's actions were sleazy, and violate most sexual harrasment laws. But what did he do deserve summary execution or torture?
I don't care if he is gay. But I have real problems with a 50-60 something year old politician abusing his/her power and being perverted with a 16 year old boy or girl. Again, very predatory.
I agree with the statement you just made, but do you really think the punishment is getting medieval on somebody's ass is just in this case (based on the known facts at this time)? Foley lost his job, faces a lifetime of embarrassment, and whatever else is penalty of sexual harassment; I think that fits as his punishment--again based on the known facts at this time.

Abusing a position of power to attempt sexual relations with a minor should be punishable by torture, no matter what the sex of the minor in question. Too often minors are concerned that they won't be believed or that someone this powerful would make them lok like liars...preditors like Foley trade on this. And while they were only 'texts' are we really naive enough to believe that if the opportunity came knocking, he wouldn't grasp it with one hand? On the other hand (excuse all the hand references) Foley should have come out years ago and its a sad indictment of our society that he felt he had to stay in the closet in order to be worthy of public office. Ironic that its because of the American Right, like himeself, that he had to stay int he closet. I agree, execution was going too far. Chemical castration is the real answer. We already KNOW Foley's a scumbag... even if the pages HAD turned 18. But how are you going to reconcile these if FOLEY actually DID avoid getting up close and dirty until the age of consent? There is NO doubt that this all started because Foley voted against the agenda of gay marriage advocates. There is little doubt remaining that several lib operatives had the damning evidence for some time before releasing it. Ironically, if the above is true re: age of respondents, then their having this without releasing immediately will not be actionable. End of, projected: Nobody REALLY did anything that can be prosecuted.. but Hastert is guilty of negligence and ethical malfeasance because of what MIGHT have transpired. The perfect storm!

One small problem here petty... the vicious legal attack dogs at CREW got copies of the emails and sent them IMMEDIATELY to the FBI... who... um... did nothing... Some of your favorite high-profile lib bloggers got them too and have admitted to having them... and at the time they tried to, oddly enough, do the right thing and corroborate the story with a second source (something all journalists should do before labeling BREAKING NEWS - yes, this is a backhanded dig at Drudge). They have noted that they had been unable to find a second source at the time of receiving the emails. God forbid bloggers use the same jouranlist ethics as everyone else.
That's your story... stick to it. Dont worry, like I say.. nothing can be charged. Last time I heard, second source was same as TWO. We'll see.
