I hope that they come in thinking that last time was an aberration, that it cant happen again.. no matter how Fulham's up to it.

Their manager will of course, warn them against this attitude, but that doesnt always work.

    EPL Preview on FSC!

Just watched FSC's EPL preview show. The last item of the show -- their showcase -- was tomorrow's match at the Cottage. I was stunned. They focused on FULHAM! There were good visuals, a 30 second montage of good hard play from last year's fixture, three good interviews, including 3U and Carlos.

If you missed it, it comes on again at 5 eastern, 11:30 eastern, and 4 a.m. eastern. Worth a watch. Nice not to be ignored by this show.

    Mike, love the TFI bit.

I think we could surprise Chelscum. They're certainly going to come into this game overconfident given all our injuries and the fact that Fulham beating Chelsea occurs only rarely of late. So we might just catch them underestimating our home form. I'm hoping we can nick a draw. If not, I just hope we give them hell for 90 minutes and make them think twice about waltzing into the Cottage like they own the place.

How disappointing, Fulham played so well but lost 0-2.

But the highlight of the commentary was GJ giving a shout to the usual listeners across the pond, particularly to American Mike and his upcoming wedding. :D

Despite the 2-0 loss, I thought Fulham played exceptionally well, especially in defense. The penalty was questionable, but if we were on the other side of this one, we would think it was a clear penalty.

The team played with heart, emotion, intensity and gave 100% which is what many of us would ask for.

I do worry a bit about our attacking options up front as we do not seem to have much going for us in the last two matches. Something will need to be sorted out in the next nine days before Fulham takes the trip to Vicarage Road to play Watford.

I was impressed yet again with Wayne Routledge. He looked strong on both the left and right side and I am hoping to see more of him in the next month of October.

The last thing I will say is this, the Chelsea match is over and while it is a letdown we lost, the key to our season is the month of October. Chris Coleman must rejuvenate this team and have them ready to go for the next four matches against Watford, Charlton, Aston Villa and Wigan. These four matches will go a long way in determining if Fulham is a top-ten threat of a relegation contender.

Fulham losing to Chelsea 2-0 didn't surprise me, but it is dissapointing. Fulham really kept Chelsea in check for about 65-70 minutes and played them tough. After the "handball" (The feed on Setanta showed it many times, I still don't see where Rosenior actually touched the ball with his hand, but the INTENT~! was there so you know), I figured it was going to be the end. Good on Coleman to bring out McBride and Helguson to try for a late goal, but unfortunately it didn't happen and Chelsea scored that insurance goal for the win.

I'm pretty pleased that Fulham, despite their injuries, took on the defending champions and at times looked like they were going to keep it at 0-0 or even get a break and put one in.

I completely agree, Tom, the next four games are crucial. Watford has yet to win a game, Charlton is looking pretty bad so far, and Wigan is average so far. The English Browns/Aston Villa is playing incredibly well, but it would be great to spoil their rise in the EPL.

RELATED ASIDE: Incidentally, the commentators for the game did praise Fulham's organization, heart, and work ethic for playing Chelsea so closely for most of the match. The post-game analyst, on the other hand, probably would have kissed Chelsea on the mouth if soccer teams had mouths.

Sorry to have missed the match. I came into work primarily to have a look at the scoreboard and I was shattered at the result. But the SOCCERNET commentary and the last few posts convince me that the boys were valiant and left it all out on the pitch. Me I wore my shirt today; couldn't always work, I guess.

We knew we were going to lose a match or two before the end of May. Time to regroup and kick some.

One quibble: I hate the lone striker -- especially at home.

Yah, you root for Kansas and suffer, and I root for Arkansas, and really suffer. But what can you do? Too late to change teams.

Fulham played well, eh? I could not see the match.

The injuries killed them. They had no depth with so many players out and got tired. But Fulham played well overall. I would have liked to see McBride in there instead of Johns.

I was fortunate enough to see the match on a live-stream website. Granted, the broadcast was in Chinese, but it still provided a pretty good view. We put up a great fight throughout the match, but in the end, Chelski had too much ruble-powered quality on their side.

One thing I noticed from the match: Chelski "fans" seemed to have one chant the entire match and it went like this -- "Chelsea, Chelsea! Chelsea, Chelsea!" I guess that's the side effect of having so many bandwagon fans who have yet to learn what their own fans sing.

We had a gig last Saturday night at an "English Pub" in San Antonio. I was in my McBride jersey and the wife was wearing her Bocanegra shirt. A young guy stopped to ask her if that was a Fulham jersey, the same team that McBride played on. She said yes, and he said how much he admired Brian. Then he said that he was a Chelsea fan. The missus said, well, not a lot of love lost between you and Fulham then. And he said. "Really? Are they rivals?"

    Bandwagon fans indeed!

What an idiot, that one of the reasons I picked a smaller club to support.

Watched the game on Setanta, and thought Fulham played well enough, Chelsea though have not really started to play the good stuff yet, CC did what he did last year he tried to stifle Makelalee I dont know if i spelled that right, and it worked to an extent, but to be honest with the players that CC as right now we are in deep trouble, this team will not let in many goals but where are they coming from, Collins John is not good enough in this line up, whether its becasue our midfield does not create enough chances for him or he is just not good enough at this level does not matter he dont cut it, Routledge playing defense is a total waste, he spent most of his time tracking back, CC as not got many options but while Voltz and Boca are doing the best they can players like Diop have got picked it up, and quite honestly i dont think he can in this line up, we need a Bullard in there, not a big guy who strolls around the field getting in trouble we need a go getter play maker and we have not got one, Brown is defensive and did a decent job. Fans are already saying if we play like this against Watford and Charlton we play have 6 points, one question to win games you have to score, and while I admit Watfrod and charlton are weak at the back they will score on us because they will target the games against us as chances for them to get three points, and Vicarage road on a Monday night will not be a friendly place. No the game yesterday showed us one thing we had a good start to the season but its going to be a very long and hard one, if CC keeps us up this year it will be a miracle, because we need a play maker and quick January will most likely be to late, so he needs to get Diop really fit and moving or convert someone.

John, excellent post! I agree with everything you are saying. In the last two weeks we could get away with playing defensively. Against Tottenham we got a point and yesterday we tried to do the same thing, but we were unlocked in the second half.

As you brought up, this is okay to play this way against the big guns, but we cannot play like this against the likes of Watford, Charlton, Villa and Wigan and expect to win.

I mentioned yesterday in a post on here how I fear we have no offensive option right now. In the past two matches, I do not remember us getting one good shot on goal which is a bit scary.

Coleman and the team need to figure out a way to score some goals. They are defending fairly well and I know we have a number of injuries, but our strikers, who are not injured are doing nothing. Most of that might be an effect of midfielders not in action on the pitch to create chances, but regardless, something needs to change and we need to score some goals. Draws will not do us well in October.

I have said this about ten times now, October is the biggest month of the season for Fulham. If we do not get a few wins, at least two, it will be a failure in my opinion. Cookie's mettle will be tested in October and he will have to come up with something different than what has been happening the past two weeks.

By no means am I complaining about the performances of the past two weeks, but against teams we can possibly beat, we have to play to win, not to draw. And.....we need to score some goals.

Chelsea's new chant should be "Dive, Dive, Dive". I can't count how many times Gentleman Jim was yelling "OH, GET UP YOU ________" and the pause would stretch out for a few seconds. You know he was about *this* close from swearing :).

Chelsea disgusts me. They get the calls because their rich and famous. I know it sounds like a whiny sore loser but I think it is true.

I'm glad we played well and gave them everything we could. We'll beat one of the big four this year and finish in the top ten if we keep it up.
