Hello. After discovering I got Fox Soccer Channel along with a bunch of other sports channels on DirecTV, I got hooked into the English Premier League. So for the last 6 months, I usualy watch it whenever there isn't a NJ Devils or NY Giants game. After watching a bunch of EPL matches, I realize I only get extra interested in the games whenever Fulham or West Ham United were playing. Upon learning that West Ham has been known more providing great young talent to other teams and watching Brian McBride play through the pain and generally be more manly than all the divers and cheaters in the WC '06, I realize that perhaps I am a Fulham fan. To test this, I made sure I got up early to watch the season opener this past Sunday. This meant waking up at 8:30 AM, a time when I'm usually still asleep. While Fulham's dissapointing performance led to a thrashing by Manchester United, I didn't just turn off the TV 20 minutes into the game, go back to bed, and forget about Fulham. I actually wanted to see how the rest of it played out and upon the loss, I started hoping Fulham will turn it around against Bolton on Wednesday. Upon reflecting on this, I'm pretty sure I support Fulham. (Also, it doesn't hurt that the team has my favorite American player who isn't Kasey Keller nor the colors of my favorite hockey team.) So come on you Whites, stomp a mudhole into Team Reebok and press for a 10th place this season.
Welcome Optimizer! Sunday was not the funnest match to watch, but like you, I stuck it out to see how things turned out. Suporting Fulham has its ups and downs as many others on here can atest to. However, the ups are fantastic and here is to hoping tomorrow is one of those ups and Fulham can get off the mark with three points against Bolton!!
Tres "Fulhamish"!! Next thing you know, you'll run out to some bar to watch the match, be surrounded by opposing fans, but not give a toss about them!
Hello Optimizer! Well I think this weekend you proved to yourself that you are, infact, a Fulham fan. A bit of a character test to watch your team get thrashed and not go running to the Liverpools, Chelski's and Manure's of the world. Just like my first match at Craven Cottage, we were up 2-0 and lost 4-2 but in the end I just loved the fans and the team. Made me a fan for life. Welcome aboard and glad you took the time to post. There are a bunch of other NJ/NY fans here so keep an eye out. How'd you find FulhamUSA?
Mike: Last question first, I found FulhamUSA after lurking on BigSoccer off and on for the past few months. Upon my discovery of FSC and later developing an addiction to Worldwide Soccer Manager, I needed to find some more talk on MLS and soccer found moooooore than I ever needed (and sometimes wanted to know) there. I think it's learning that McBride was Fulham's player of the year; that was the first instance. But I didn't want to sign up until I knew I could handle watching Fulham. Fortunately, I did. RDG: I don't care about opposing fans for any sport, really. I'm a Devils fan who grew up in a Ranger-fan neighborhood when the Rangers were hot for exactly 3 seasons. I don't know where all those kids went or if they still are Rangers fan, but I still bleed Devils red. Plus, the 3 Stanley Cups don't hurt either.
Ouch to this Ranger fan! Though I am a bit of a masochist, rooting for not only the Rangers, but also the Mets, Bills and -- of course -- FFC. Either I like the pain or I've got thick skin.
Same goes here, OUCH! :3d crying: Well, either way glad you made it over and McBride is a cult hero at The Cottage already. You'll find that Fulham fans are probably the smartest of all football supporters so they don't look at the game like a bunch of thugs, but as people who appreciate the game. They know Brian works his socks off and even if he doesn't score, they know he's done his job. Welcome aboard.
Yeah, nice to meet you Mike. Love the website. Our normal boozer The Cottage has had a rennovation and gone all poncy, The Lion could be our new watering hole...liked it alot. Shame about the football last night. I needed some more beers after a performance liked that.
You Rangers fans quit your whining. I've spent my whole life living and dying by the CAPITALS. (Mostly dying, obviously.)
