Does anyone have a slingbox? I have been reading lately about this and it seems really cool. In essence, you can watch your home tv on a computer anywhere in the world. It costs $199 and there are no monthly fees.

Does anyone have any experience with the slingbox? For those who want more info, go to www.slingbox.com

Hey, Tom, there are a couple of offices here that use them to get dc feeds to their offices back home and vice versa. It's not suitable for office needs, but I thought about purchasing one for myself...what could be cooler than getting 300 channels on the go? But I read an article (I think on CNET) about broadcast companies taking slingbox to court over rebroadcast rights, so I never ended up buying one for the fear that it may soon become illegal. That was about a month ago and I haven't heard anything since then, but I don't want to spend the $$$ and not be able to use it.

Thanks for the info Heather. If you hear anything more about the potential legal battles let me know. I am not sure if I will get one or not. It is just something I saw and thought might be cool. In fact, I would probably not get it, but my soon to be brother-in-law would love this.

OKay, not sure what you decided Tom. But I caved in and got one this weekend (one of their new, cheaper ones). And it works like a champ and the quality is really good for streaming media. And there are no lawsuits (that I know of) that are pending, so I think it's safe.

The only difficulty I had in setting it up was getting the slingbox to be recognized remotely because of a router port issue. But I solved that after finding their help guide online, which took some time in finding.

Does anyone else have a Slingbox? What are your thoughts on them? It is a year later and the prices have gone down even further and I am thinking about getting one. I am not on the road all that much, but it would be nice to be able to watch my own TV from the road.

Any positive comments or negative comments would be welcomed to help me out. Is it a smooth picture? Is there any buffering?
