I recently switched to DirecTV to be able to watch Setanta Sports Channel. One of the sports shown on there is Hurling. This sport seems to be a combination of soccer, rugby and lacrosse. Can someone that knows the rules of this game explain it to me? What does a score for one team of 2-22 mean? And if the score for two teams is 2-22 to 3-16 who is winning? Also can you tackle the opposition?

Any info or insight into this game would be appreciated. Thanks!

In my google search, I found several references to the “hurling hero” Setanta (one example: The Game of Hurling).

I thought it was interesting given the name of the sports channel.

Okay, the scoring makes sense. So, if a team has 3-13, they have scored three goals in the net, worth three points a piece and then four have gone over the crossbar between the posts for a point a piece to make the score 13. I think I get that.

I was reading the rules and they get a bit confusing with only being able to run a few steps and only twice per possession with the little sliotar (ball). I will maybe pick it up more as a I watch it, but I am not sure if I am going to watch it enough to warrant me learning every single rule. However, it is now nice to know the objective of this game.

Thanks Heather and Juxxy for helping me out. It is much appreciated.

Hurling was an early staple of ABC's Wide World of Sports... seemed they had at least one program/game a month.
Later, ESPN covered it, and on both, it always seemed to me there was an emphasis on the bloody face.

Then they came up with X-Games

I don't think that counts as an "Other Sport."
