Will it be the record number of red and yellow cards shown, or the inconsistency of referee standards, or the cheating, or perhaps some of the splendid goals and great football. There were some great teams on display over these last 30 days.

Over a billion people watched the final on Television. It was between two very good sides. Italy could have won it in the first half, but the French seem to get stronger as the time passed, and I thought might have got the winner. I always feel sad for the losers, but that's life.

The only mar on the day was Zindane's action near the end. Incidently, since neither the referee or the referee's assistances witnessed the attack, they were wrong to send him off. Maybe that will be the talking point for the next 4 years, instead of the quality of the football.

The count down now begins for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In short, I will remember the high amount of yellow cards awarded and all of the diving. I really hope something can be done to curb the diving. It is getting ridiculous.

Yeah, I thought FIFA (and Eric Cantona and his thugs) were going to crack down on diving. Although I do recall seeing at least one yellow card for diving, that's not saying much (especially since yellow cards were given out for practically everything but hair style!)

Yes, indeed, the cards and refs will be remembered long after we've forgotten who played in the final of Germany '06.

Yeah, the refs handing out a full deck of cards will be one memory of this World Cup. But I will remember a couple of other things:

    1. The opening match between Germany and Costa Rica. Two special goals in that one.
    2. T & T holding Sweden with a man down.
    3. Group E being the true group of death. Was anyone really expecting Argentina and the Dutch to fail to get out of their group?
    4. Bruce Arena playing a 4-5-1 the entire tournament, even in a must win game. :x
    5. Players falling down due to another player's breathe and suffer in agony for about 3 minutes. Then the player pops right up after getting stretchered off. (See Portugal v. Netherlands and Portugal v. England. Does anybody notice a trend in the games I listed?)
    6. Argentina beating Mexico with one great goal.
    7. The Rooney and Ronaldo show. I found it to be good entertainment.
    8. Germany being very good hosts, and giving their fans more than what was expected. And playing in one of the best matches in the World Cup against Italy, only to lose with one minute left in Extra time on not one but two spectacular goals.
    9. Zidane ending his career in such disgrace.

[edit: Brazil failing to make it to the semifinals is another one I forgot to mention.]

    1. Yellow Cards and Diving- Diving should result in an automatic yellow card. If a player dives give him a yellow. Players then will learn not to dive.

2.Wonder Goal-That Cambiasso goal against Serbia and Montenegro was brilliant. Everything from the build-up to the finish was amazing.

3.Bruce Arena- He failed this team. He tried the 4-5-1 and it didnt work, but unlike a great manager he didnt change his tactics and ultimately the US went out in the first round. Then to say that we arent in a position to win a World Cup is a joke. We are a top 10 team all top 10 teams should make it to at least the 2nd round. He fails in big matches and got lucky in 2002. Hes the reason why we got beat badly in Mexico City and San Jose last year as well.
