Wigan had a 5.5 million pound bid accepted by Birmingham City for striker Emile Heskey. While Heskey was once a former England International, he is 28 years old and clearly on the decline.

With Wigan losing Jimmy Bullard to us at Fulham and Jason Roberts to Blackburn since their fine 2005-2006 season concluded, one could say that manager Paul Jewell is getting desperate in bringing Heskey in at a club record breaking fee.

Wigan is losing it my friends. I expect to see this team in the relegation mix this season.

    Don,
If Luton is promoted and they play Fulham who will you cheer for?

Yes Dave Wheelan is indeed losing it. I saw on FSWR last night they were offered 7.5 million pounds for Chimbonda by I belive L'pool. They turned it down! They want 10 million pounds! If they don't get it they'll presumably let poor Pascel rot in the reserves, as there mad that he handed in a transfer request.

Another thing they, already have Jason Roberts, a very similar and better player than the current Heskey. I thought Paul Jewel was a smart guy. What happened?

That 'have' should be 'HAD' because they just sold Jason Roberts to Blackburn didn't they?!

Jason Roberts left for Blackburn earlier this week. With only one year left on his contract, they decided to cash in on him now rather than letting him go for free after next season.

I'll root for Fulham for sure. In the pre-season fixture, I'll just hope for no injuries.

I realized I'd made my shift when the first match result I was looking for was Fulham's.

Jewell must think that Heskey can be a striker worth 5.5m or else, why would he pay that for him? I just doesn't make sense though.

Heskey scored 5 goals last season...FIVE!! Paul Jewell is taking a huge risk by thinking he can change him around. I'm so confused by this my head hurts.

I think these questionable personnel decisions can be attributed to a club that didn't plan far enough ahead. Their goal, coming into last season, was to stay up. Apparently, they didn't have a plan in place to build on their success.

I agree that they will be battling in the bottom 6 this season. Who's to blame: Whelan, Jewell, or both?
