    RE: Gooch

Knowing Cookie, he is lining up a bid for someone...although usually it ends up not being a Defender. Hopefully this time he will get it over with and just buy one or two.

    RE: Gooch

I remember at the end of this season when Reding said they planned on bring in more Americans because they liked their passion. Well this would be one of the most passionate for sure. Gooches attitude is right in line with Convey and Hahnemann. Obviously, Gooch and McBride also share that same passion, but looks like Fulham has wasted their opportunity.

Finally, Fulham is mentioned in a bid for Gooooooooch.

"But Boro could face competition to land the 24-year-old Onyewu from Premiership rivals Fulham and Reading." (The Sun)

Come on Fulham, we need a CB!!

Club Call has been quite reliable as of late and it says we are about to hijack the deal for Gooch:

This deal makes sense, 2m is about our price range but I know the one thing that is holding Fulham back is if he can handle it in the Prem. Can someone tell me the attributes of this fellas that would help him succeed in this league.

Other than his size of course!

Mike, I've only seen him play for the US and not at Standard Liege, but have read yanks-abroad and everything else to keep up on this guy. He can be one of the best defenders in the world with a little more work.

His biggest problem right now is getting red cards, he claims that the refs in Belgium don't let any rough play go--he could be right, but I haven't seen the games where this has occurred. Plus, I don't remeber him getting any reds during international play. Also, from what I read he has problem of losing concentration for brief moments, but he mentioned he is aware of this problem and continually works to fix this.

The pluses, he has pretty good speed and footwork for a big guy. Very good in the air and has at one time played as a forward and scored (I think this was one game in France?)--he has no problem going up for a late game winner (see CONCACAF Gold Cup).

Overall, he's very hard working defender who wants to improve and has the skills to do so. I think he would be a good fit in the Premiership, he is not afraid of challenges and has the pace to play at this level.

Umm... did any of you guys happen to think that the Sun and Clubcall might be listening to us?

Not sayin.. but it wouldnt be the first time. If it happens in the 'real press' and international news reading bloggers, then why not the 'yellow pages'?

As to his 'creds', I trust the Bruce.. that's good enough.

My thinking is that Gooch is gonna play every minute... Pope, Conrad and Carlos cant say that.. in fact, Boca may not even get in.

Gooch is the closest thing to a "shut-down corner" in footy these days. He's big, he's fast, he's young, and he's driven. You can tell from interviews, and speaking with him, that he is a special talent. If you need evidence of how he neutralizes offenses, take a look at some of the games against Mexico. Also, he may make a mistake on rare occassion, but rarely if ever do you see him make the same mistake twice.

Whatever team (please be Fulham) gets him will have one of the best 2-3 million pound investments in the history of that team.

Yeah... but in this case, Fulham didnt need to back-peddle as Boro did.
