What do you guys make of this Juventus match fixing? The entire Juve board resigns, Italys world cup referee and several Italian WC players are now under investigation.

I was just watching Fox Football Friday, those guys aren't always a perfect source for information, but.................. they said its down to a judge in Naples. And the best case is Juve get relegated to C2,3rd division, and worst C4, 5th division. WOW!

Juventus playing in Italian 5th divison, its possible they could never recover. Its belived as many as 19 games may have been fixed. If true, and it looks to be... the entire Juventus board resigning, then Juve deserve it. We absolutly can't have corruption like this in the game. It undermines everything. Has anyone else read The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro? It partly deals with these kinda of things in Italy

Could be some serious implications on the WC. No telling how many Italian players are involved. Could help the US. Hell Pavel Nedved could be involved. Either way its bad for the game every where.

Mass exodus of Juventus players? Could be some great deals to be had.

before we get too bent out of shape ....

.. over the scandal, we need to look at what it entails.

The basic premis is that officials (no players indicated) - mainly from Juve - have been accused of collaborating with the Higher ranks of the Italian FA in deciding which referee they would like to officiate their matches. Apparently, one or more certain refs appear to like Juve more than any other club and were - shall we say - more sympathetic to allowing Juve the benefit of the doubt in most cases and thus cheating - kind of.

It would appear also that AC Milan are also under investigation - and this is where it gets politically interesting - and one of their owners is the recently-deposed Italian Prime-minister. Berlusconi, This, then, leads us down another - even wider - path, in that the facts of this case are likely to have been known for a very long time, and only since Berlusconi lost his control over the judiciary has these claims seen the light of day.

Let us not forget that following his election, Berlusconi, who is one, if not the, wealthiest man in Italy, changed the law to ensure that he could not be indicted on his past transgressions of Italian Law. Thus, the likelyhood that ANY investigation, official or otherwise, would have got off the ground whilst he was still in power, is miniscule. Added to this, it may turn out that this is politically motivated (considering AC have been dragged into the scrum very quickly) and, as with most Italian investigation, the likelyhood of any convictions due to, shall we say, bonuses being paid, is slimmer than flo-jo's waist measurement.

Okey-Dokey, it's just all fun on the continent, ain't it?
