Well, this came with little fanfare and, after the fact, is getting a lot.

    Match report

What it means to me is that a patched-together mostly pre-season, mostly MLS side aint up to it. Though I'd bet if you took the MLS all-stars and practiced them two weeks, it would have been better.

I am also starting to have my doubts about Eddie Johnson.. thoguh I didnt see this and cant be specific.. seems that he needs 'folding-in' to a coherent mid and striking setup.

It wasn't as bad as the scoreline says...I watched the entire game, and I'm not really worried, other than Keller, Dolo, Gibbs?, Convey?, Mastroeni?, and Johnson? (question marks are by the guys who will be there but not 100% sure if they get a start yet)...I don't think any of the others (that played) really have much of a shot of making the World Cup line-up. And the players that I mentioned all performed very well. Keller mafe some pretty good saves but was left high and dry on all the goals, which were boneheaded mistakes by Berhalter and Conrad. And Ching not even bothering to touch the ball on the first German goal (on the set piece) didn't help.

I actually thought Johnson played pretty well...not great, he can work on his touches--but for a guy that hasn't seen much game time since he's been fully healthy, what can you expect? But he was pretty quick and causing a bit of trouble and if wasn't for Kahn he would have had a goal from his header. Other than Convey and Mastroeni (motm for the US in my book) the Midfield was dire and our backline was disorganized. But Dolo should start every game in the Cup if were up to me...very level headed and very good at setting up attacks. Gibbs played well and has only just started playing again about a month ago? He was a little slow but put in a few good tackles.

Overall, I would say it wasn't that bad of a performance considering who was playing on both sides of the ball. The Germans had most of their World Cup starters playing at home in a semi-must win game. And the US had about 3-4 starters playing.
