Huth as a transfer and Gouvou as a loan? Maybe. But i would rather see Mensah to the club, Huth is too hasty.

And if not Govou, there have been rumours about the hard working walesman Simon Davies in Everton who haven played in the first team for ages. Think that could be a good signing. Davies is capable of replacing Steed.

Oh, I will be checking too every three minutes, I just do not expect anything resolved until the afternoon on Thursday. I hope I am wrong.

As for the right winger we are potentially after, I have read that Everton's Kevin Kilbane might be coming to Fulham. He is an Ireland International and is 29. He is a decent player when healthy. He was just red-carded on Saturday against Spurs.

If that red card early in the game is any indication, no thanks, we already have one of those guys at that exact position. Davies sounds way more interesting. Although Govou would be the top swoop.

Is it me, or does it seem that about 1 in every 5 to 10 rumors on Clubcall turns out to have serious substance (more than speculation or the beginning stages of something)?

Well, it's the nature of the business both printing rumors and the fooball transfer business. Deals break down (early or late); and when you print rumors, you're going to be wrong more often than right.

ClubCall is 100% correct only when they have an EXCLUSIVE next to the title. If it doesn't, then its just like any other transfer rumor site...crap.

The one I hate more than anything is Tribal Football: NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY.

Mike, thanks for the scoop, this will help me know better what to believe and not to believe.

In baseball, where I'm much more knowledgeable, I know what sources to trust and what rumors are the "two sportswriters in a bar" rumor. An example of the latter: If Joe Girardi is fired by the Marlins, there is a lot of speculation that he will become the Cubs manager, which from what I've heard is mostly based on the fact that Girardi caught for them and that Dusty Baker should be (will be) fired. Another example is a player signing with a team because it's his hometown, without any reason to believe he actually wants to play for the hometown team. I know to totally discount those type of rumors--they're total speculation and have very little chance of actually happening (and if they do, it's just luck). I've also learned to discount any outrageous trade rumor involving the Washington Nationals because Jim Bowden spreads a lot of rumors about his trade wishes like they could actually happen, and most of them are too crazy for the other team to consider.

I'm not as knowledgable about football to make those judgements yet. I'm sure some rumors are based on fact (the teams have talked quite a bit and are close to a deal), some are based on wishes, and some are two sportswriters in a pub. I'd like to be able to distinguish between the different types of rumors.

And then there's the wishful thinking rumors, like those the last three years linking Roger Clemens with a trading deadline move to either the Yankees or RedSox. These rumors are promulgated by ESPN, situated halfway between these two teams.

Just like you should never believe any rumors involving the Baltimore Orioles because their front office works incredibly slowly and is absolutely incapable of completing a noteworthy deal.

I am watching SkySports News right now and they are reporting that Robery Huth is set to undergoe a medical at Middlesbrough tomorrow. That being said, it looks like our idea of Robert Huth joining us on loan are incorrect. Back to the drawing board boys and girls.

I saw that, too. Woodgate and Huth...I wish we had that pair coming to Fulham.

You'd think we'd be bringing in a out of favor player from a top four club but I don't see to many unused CB's out there.

None at Arsenal as their injury ridden at defense right now. Not Chelsea since Huth is gone. Not ManU as they also have several defensive injuries. Only thing I see is Liverpool which has Agger, Hypia, Aurelio, Finnan, Kromkamp, as well as Carragher, Paletta, and Warnok who are injured. Perhaps if Carragher will be back soon and maybe the others, they'd give us Kromkamp on loan. This possibility or maybe they've got something lined up aboard. Anyone else have any ideas?

None at all Spencer. Hence my pessimistic attitude looking at things over the next 48 hours.

I get the Routledge deal, but Kilbane? Yeah, he'll be a nice back-up for Boa (or incentive to raise his play), but a bit of an accessory when we NEED a top-notch CB.

I like Routledge and thought he did well when he played for Palace in the Premiership two seasons ago. It would be nice to get him on a permanent deal, but whether by loan or permanent he will be a great addition to the club on the right wing.

However, as Heather states, we NEED a center-half in a hurry. We will have injuries in the defense sooner rather than later. Christanval's injury history is not good and Ian Pearce will never be able to stay healthy all season long.

That being said, we have Bocanegra, who is serviceable and also Zakuani and Zat Knight, who seems to be well out of favor and perhaps on his way out. Zakuani was sent off in today's reserve match for two bookable offenses and seems to be a ways away from being able to play in the first team.

Routledge is a good move that will definitely benefit this team. However, a center-half is an absolute must right now. Our defense is NOT good and we need a reinforcement there to patch this hole up.

Once again though, I am very pessimistic about any transfer deals at Fulham in the next 36 hours. I hope something happens, but until I see it on Fulham's official site or on the BBC or Sky, I will not believe anything. Sorry for the negativity folks.
