You'll be amused that this ol' pro-capital conservative is smirking again at the major recording companies.

The cost of CD music relative to Cassettes made my blood boil from the beginning. As I had done the numbers and KNEW that a cd probably cost LESS to make than a tape, by the 90's

And I've never been too enamored of the 99 cent price for itune downloads... it's actually a price HIKE for lesser quality product. But hey, more convenient and -heck- I didnt figger it would ever go UP much. Because production costs would go down.

    WRONG!

    - Stereophile: Recording Industry Update

Here's what I think is behind it... the labels now realize that their cost per CD sold is going up. While CD sales were dropping off long before itunes, any port in a storm.. or way to stop the hemorraghing was fine. Now that downloading is legit, the beancounters have been rehired and found a way to prove the industry aint raking off enough.

Hey...i got an idea... either write it off as money you already made and spent from the 20 years of CD premium gouge prices - or raise the price of thew CD another 4 bucks!

    Yeah, that oughta do it!

I DO take comfort in the knowledge that most of these schmucks vote Liberal! And that they cant survive in the free market without government protection.
