Just a crazy idea...

Last night I ran across a quote from David Moyes, in which he supposedly said, in effect:

"We train on defense and ball work in the middle, but, once we are in the scoring zone, I leave it to the boys..to just have fun"

Well, that what happened yesterday at the cottage, and Everton still hasnt won there since 66.

Not that I'm sorry about that.. but it's indicative of how widespread this notion is.
And puts me in mind of what might happen if we have somewhere a new 'tactical revolution' such as the Dutch did decades ago.

I started a topic on this a few days ago on the Crew forum; and though it was PERFECTLY clear in my mind, what I meant.. I was astounded to have others, whose opinion on the sport I have respected, respond with:

"Strikers are born, not made", "This is the fault of the American coaching system", and "Creativity is what's lacking, not skills"
ALL of which, I contend, is either NOT true or beside the point...I believe that this problem is widespread.

And just to avoid the same sort of confusion on here... as this idea seems to be RADICAL, I advocate:
A coach/specialist who pays particular attention to the attacking set-up and mechanics of the players' striking skills.
Who understands not only the tactical approach but the physical and mental dynamics of putting the ball in the net.

Why, if "these men are all professionals" do we have GK coaches on almost EVERY team?

 

i think what he means is he trusts his strikers, but you are correct.

a coach will only help a palyer improve on what he has; coaches don't make bad strikers into good ones. everyone has their own instincts; look at Owen and Rooney for example. Owen is forever looking behind him,r eady to sprint onto a pass and put it in the back of the net. Rooney on the other hand makes himself available in space in front of the defense, and will look to bury it from distance.

some people run into the box looking to get into a goal scoring position; others run in looking for a pass so they can shoot themselves.

but to not have coaches watching over your strikers is scandalous. surely they have attacking set pieces to go over with them at least?

this obviously sjhows why Everton always look lost in the final third. surely common sense would prevail in that you would want all of your players to know exactly where they should be on the field in certain situations and what they should do.
