    I wish Bob well, but it was time for him to move on after the WC. One cycle is enough for a coach...unless they win it.

    The only way the US plays Eqypt is if they're paired together in a WC group. It doesn't serve any one very well for there to be a "friendly." Not Michael Bradley, not US Soccer, and not Bob Bradley.

    Wow, Mo, do you walk like an Egyptian? :) Personally, I'd hope the US puts 7 past Egypt should it ever occur. But, I understand your long-standing love for Sir Bradley.

    And given DCH's comments re a US v. Egypt friendly, nonetheless, it would be a hype-gem.

    Bradley did his job well, but it was time to move on for the US.

    Very interesting article, and love the fact he has immersed himself over there (I guess we shouldn't be surprised since his son has done the same thing in Italy).

    I think everybody is rooting for him to take Egypt to the WC, and given that they didn't qualify for the ACN has to help him (if he was in charge and they didn't have a good tournament, he might have been given the quick hook). He takes them to the WC, and he would be a trailblazer for US coaches.

    One thing I would disagree w/the author is the comment of BB being a 'polarizing figure in the US'. The overwhelming majority of USMNT fans would say he did a great job. However, most fans would say one cycle is enough and the team's play at the Gold Cup was poor (Final or not), and it was time for a change.

    Best USMNT coach ever -- nobody else comes close.

    Arenas 02 performance, at the least, puts him as an equal to Bradley in my book. Should've beaten Ghana in 10 - and there wasn't even a bad handball call.

    I can think of a couple that can be argued for the top spot themselves or at least can't be discounted;

    • Bora was unconventional, but the fact he guided the team to the knockout rounds when the entire WORLD mocked us, thought the WC would be a disaster, and predicted we would be the first host country to be eliminated in the group stages in 1994 has to be considered.

    • The poster boy for NOT having a coach for a 2nd WC cycle, Bruce Arena. How it ended wasn't great, but even in that massive failure the '06 team did draw w/the eventual World Champions. 2002 is the watershed moment in USMNT history by not only getting to the Quarterfinal, but by totally outplaying the Germans that day (don't get me started on the handball!!). The US lost the match, but gained the respect of the footballing world.

    Agree with every word. The poor showing of 2006 WC really dented Arena's accomplishments from the 2002 WC, in which the team probably would have beat Germany if the refs had called that handball.
