    In a recent article on CNN.com = http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/0 ... index.html

..... its is apparent that China is attempting again to absorb the small nation of Taiwan for, shall we say, "security purposes". Interesting as the the article is, it has a small blurb that mentions how if Taiwan comes under military aggression the United States would look down on that notion and react accordingly.

    Anyone feel a draft?

humphhh.... gee whiz. This is a new development ...NOT!

It is geo-political positioning. Taiwan is clamoring for attention, China is deflecting attention from what they ARENT doing about NK and what they ARE doing to the price of oil.
    Check out some history:
Hint: Matsu/Quemoy circa 1950's go from there.

And what would we "draft" for?

    BTW;

Make up your mind... subject implies one thinng, text another.

Its an empty threat petty.... we can't possibly stand up to them militarily. We cant possibly take on IRAN, NK, China, and Iraq all while fighting "terror".

China in a few years time will be right up there with us as a superpower. If they absorb NK they will just take their technology and upgrade their weapons systems like they are looking to do now.

The draft my friend, is a bill which allows the government to expend your life at their leisure... If they keep wanting to kick ass and make good decisions later (IRAQ), we'd actually have to have one of those otherwise they are empty threats....

China isnt dumb, i never met a billionaire that is (Al Fayed is the only billionaire I have ever met, just had to include that.)

So... if you think we could stop china tell me how. That would be intriguing.

We Dont HAVE to 'stop' China, and you're right that we couldnt if we wanted to...

But look at their entire history from Mao to this time... they are now 'communist' in name only.
Think "Red Army, Inc.".. there are THOUSANDS of Red Army Inc people in the US, and probably hundreds of businesses, and students galore. Yep, lots of espionage going on..

But the entire mindshift in the Chinese approach to the rest of the world is what counts.. they now have a middle class and that middle class is capitalist in deed, if not thought.
    and chinese students...{link}..
The ruling cadre is trying to manage the migration so as to stay in power but this is frought with problems... like the pronouncement about Taiwan. It was done for effect and it backfired.
    WPOST google link

Summary: Democracy is rearing its head in China.. there's no turning back.

BTW: Chinese Nuke tech is FAR ahead of NK's... they have lots of our technology, after all.
