for the friendly matches with Honduras and Ecuador.

At defender: I'm glad Gooch is in. Note that Goodsen is not on the list. How does Orozco get called and not Goodsen? You cant possibly say Orozco has done better. And Ream is not good enough. Also, if Klinsmann wanted to be revolutionary he would stop bringing Spector in as a defender. He is great at attacking but not fast enough and our D is not good enough for him to be at either back, and still be allowed to go forward.

At Midfield: I know very little about D. Williams but if he starts in the Bundesliga I assume he's quality. Anyone know if he's attacking, wing, holding, def, midfielder because most of the players on the lisst are defensive or holding midfielders. I guess if the savior decides on a 4-3-3 that's okay. I love watching Shea but I seriously hope he only plays in one of the games. He's had a busy schedule. Omissions Adu, Bedoya, Fielhaber, and Kjestan. I wish someone in the soccer world could issue a statement about Adu explaining why he never gets played or chosen by coaches even though anytime we are actually given the rare glimpse, he is clearly one of the most impactful players on the pitch. I really think a formal explanation is owed.

At forward:It's strange listing Beasley as a forward, especially when Dempsey and Shea are midfielders. I would like to see him play though. Basically I'm fine with this list. I would have liked to see Gomez in there just because he's a supersub pure finisher and Klinsmann needs to get a win under his belt, but if he doesnt feel the pressure than more power to him.

Goodsen must be carrying a knock. He was our best central defender. Speaking of which, is Gooch still playing FB or is Sporting using him at CB?
Can we puh-leeeeeeeeze try TWO strikers up front? Can they be Agudelo and Altidore? Both are in great form and, IIRC from the Bradley era, they blended together nicely.
And what's the word with CD9? Is he off JK's radar? Has Socheaux asked USSF NOT to use him until he's fully recovered and match fit? A healthy fir CD9 to run up front with Jozy would have made us a sight to see in South Africa.

CD9 is not ready for international duty. I'm not sure he'll get back to pre injury days. But he does ok for DC.

    Two questions asked above:

    1) Daniel Williams is a defensive midfielder who can also play right/left back.

    2) Gooch has been starting at CB for Sporting CP. Not LB like he was at Twente.

Ugh...I was really hoping to see Donovan and Dempsey on the field at the same time under Klinsmann. :(

Me too. The disappointment on the US MNT front continues. I'm thinking we'll now see Beasley playing where Klinsmann intended to use Landy.

Here's a nice article about Daniel Williams http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=8323

Generally I'm not very approving of all the Germans being called into the US team that are products of the German system. This is mostly because for me it then takes away from any success the team might have; such success would in part be due to the German system and not the American one. We're kind of doing what the Brits did against us in the Revolutionary War - getting German mercenaries to fight.

But then I read the article and it's like, "aw shuks, let the kid play for the US"

Thanks for posting Mo, interesting article. I tend to go case by case and see if it's a 'mercenary' scenario. David Regis had never been to the US before and don't think ever after the time he played for us. While the likes of Thomas Dooley (who became our captain) and Ernie Stewart symbolized what America is all about. I have no idea if this kid is any good, but liking his attitude.

One of the last posts on the yanks abroad thread on the now defunct site was a clip of Gooch flying in, rising high without fear, and winning the match for Sporting Lisbon with a header. Talent wise (when healthy) he is far and away the best CB the US has. Isn't it time for the fans to get some good news from a injury situation?
