    Beasley, Donovan, Adu, Johnson.....

    Johnson?!!!!! Whoda he!! is JOHNSON!

Well, he holds / shares 3 Mens national team qualifying records:

    - 1 of only3 to score in 4 consecutive games (with Looby and McBride),

    - Third in all time Qualifying goals (after Stewart and McBride)

And he's only played in 4 games - which comprises the third and most impressive record.

    - SIX goals in the first 4 games he played. In his second - Panama- he got a hat trick as a sub.

I'm a US fan and watch the games whenever I possibly can. I'm glad people can get excited about whipping up on the Trinidads and St. Vincents of the world but I hate CONCACAF. It would be so much better for the US game if they combined the 2 Western Hemisphere qualifying groups. Let 8 teams into the Cup and one into a playoff. If we still make it (which I think we would) then at least we earned it against good competition. Even if we don't at least we would get to see good games against Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, etc. instead of twiddling our thumbs through the whole process waiting to see 2 games against Mexico. I think you would see interest in the team and the game increase a lot if this happened - even though unfortunately it won't.

Well, i suppose it's a shame... but it COULD be Oceania. What would you say about that?

And to say that these little countries cant cut it, ignores some unpleasant facts.

How far does Canada get each cycle? And how many players does Canada have in europe and playing well in MLs and other 2nd tier leagues? ENOUGH! and they have a proven coach in Yallop as well.

Now... look at Mexico's record. Then count how many players they have ex-pat.

Some things dont add up. I've thought about your idea and I think it would work -if you did a single huge home and home qualifying round- but I'm not sure it would make all that much difference.

    Except , maybe, to Mexico.

I agree with you that it wouldn't much difference in who makes the Cup. It would create excitement, bring passion to the American game and increase interest in our Cup participation (which is sadly lacking). If some of the big South American teams show up here for meaningful games you will see large crowds, intesive press coverage and more people starting to pay attention.
