They're starting their tour in DC on the 4th. I need to get some tickets and find another Nada Surf fan. Most of my friends are too busy debating whether coldplay is better than the beatles these days.

One of the first dates I went on with my current girlfriend Zaneta was a Nada Surf concert. She likes them. Not as much as me, but she is going on the 14th with me to see them.

My two cents on new music... both country or country-ish...

New Brad Paisley... There will be no better bar song for many years than "Alcohol"... and "Cornography" is one of the most hysterical things I've ever heard... he even gets a Shatner cameo at the end of the CD...

New Nickel Creek... unbelieveable stuff... actually didn't catch on for me during the first listen... it's very different than their previous CDs... a bit less bluegrass and more John Mayer-ish... but there are some true gems on the disc... I've got my 15th row tickets for their Minneapolis show at the end of this month!

And one more recommendation for those who like good folk-ish music... GREAT BIG SEA! I saw them in concert a couple of weeks ago... I had listened to their stuff for years after dating a Cannuck girl and had always wanted to see them live... well worth the wait... great vocals... great musicianship... and some HYSTERICAL lyrics... go check it out...

GBS is one of our shows in November, I think (I haven't gotten a booking confirmation on that yet). Fancy another road trip, shark? Kate's a big fan, so she'll be there...
Nickel Creek is fun, too. Another band I learned about through my job. The tall one reminds me of that guy who played Dawson, but kookier, but once I get past that, they're good fun.
I've been quite fickle in my music lately-a whole lot of just shuffling through the IPod. Jux and I caught the White Stripes on Saturday, which has inspired a lot of listening to them. It took me awhile to warm up to their latest, although seeing them live certainly gave new life to the studio stuff, as well.
Their opener was a Cinci band called The Greenhornes. Very percussion-driven, fun stuff. Worth checking out.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the latest Mars Volta? I know it's been out for a few months now, but I keep thinking I should pick it up.

ChicagoTom, if you're digging Mojave 3 right now (especially the new one) and Interpol, three CDs for you:

Nada Surf - "The Weight Is A Gift" (yes, the guys who had that song "Popular" in the late 90's... they've changed their sound and now it's just fantastic chunky pop rock)
Gomez - "How We Operate" (early contention for my personal favorite release from 2006; these guys are just SO good)
The Long Winters - "When I Pretend To Fall" (hard to categorize in much the same way Gomez is, but they have songwriting and melodies that stick in your brain)

    Tony,
I like the new Mojave cd, just not as much as their previous work. It is still really good, I just like them a bit more mellow. But, the more upbeat tunes are not bad, I just have to get used to them a bit more. Mojave 3 is my favorite band. In fact, I was listening to "Puzzles Like You" this morning.

As for your suggestions, I have all of Nada Surf's stuff and they are great! I saw them here in Chicago earlier in the year and they were fantastic as always.

Gomez is not bad. Another FUSA member, JUX and his wife, Mrs. Jux really like Gomez.

I have not heard of The Lonf Winters. I will have to check them out.

Some music I have been listening to lately:

Band of Horses - Everything All the Time
Mojave 3 - Puzzles Like You
Built to Spill - You In Reverse
The Kooks - Inside In-Inside Out
Rainer Maria - Catastrophe Keeps Us Together

One more oldie but goody I have been listening to lately is the Lemonheads. Very underrated band, but a great band nonetheless.

I've heard nothing but good things about Band of Horses--I'll have to check them out. I caught onto Mojave 3 around the time of "Excuses for Travellers" and I agree--their new stuff takes some getting used to. Neil Halstead can write a song that'll stop you in your tracks ("She Broke You So Softly," anybody?). And Pape, you're right--the Futureheads is one of the catchiest bands out there. I'm excited about their new disc coming out.
    Thanks for the suggestions!

That sounds great, Tom. How would you want to work it? I can do a one-for-one trade on burned discs; I've got about 600 or so CDs and am a big proponent of spreading good music throughout this bad-music-infested land!

    Tony,
We will figure something out. I will get in touch with you next week after the 4th of July holiday and we can perhaps exchange some tunes.

Play is my favorite Moby album.

Lately I've been listening to the new Snow Patrol album and Adam Ant (kind of a weird combination there).

I need to get that new Automatic album. Their song 'Monster' is funny and quite catchy. If only I could find it in the U.S. without paying import prices. booo.

Tony, I have not forgotten about getting in touch with you. Things have been a bit crazy for me lately and I have not had much time to look into burning some discs. I will though eventually.

Just got the Automatic "Not Accepted Anywhere" and Feeder "Singles" albums. Both are great, but both were expensive since I could only find them as 'imports' on Amazon.

Now I'm off to watch one of the greatest F1/racing movies ever: Grand Prix (DVD was just recently released).
