Candidates for Fulham Overseas Fan of the Year are posted here: http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2014/june/ ... f-the-year

A couple are from the US. Are any regulars to this forum? If so, I'm sure they could wrangle up some votes here. These are the US fans (I think) up for FOFY:
    • Clayton Cochrane
      James Doughton
      Russ Goldman
      Tucker Pope

I wonder how one became a candidate. Did a notice get posted on this site -- the OFFICIAL FULHAM FC US SUPPORTERS CLUB?

We're no longer the only Fulham FC US supporters club, and haven't been for the past 2 seasons (longer if you count the Fulham Exiles--which is US based, but I don't believe limited to). Fulham had it on their site for nominations for Supporter of the Year. They got so many they broke it down into categories; Fan on the Year, Overseas Fan of the Year, and Young Fan of the Year. Sorry, I didn't nominate anybody. But I'm really not a fan of these type of things. Some people may be the biggest supporters ever, but perhaps they're not interested in the attention?

I feel the same. I've also never really been into the way the managers and players in soccer are obligated to acknowledge the fans with clapping hands in the air. Sure, when the time is right and the fans have been awesome then acknowledge it with a thumbs up, clap, etc. But some fans shout so much abuse I'm not sure they always deserve the acknowledgement. They don't clap for the players when they give the ball away, why should players or managers clap for abusive fans. The worse part is my sons high school team started doing it last fall. When the fans are almost all parents and then the players come over and clap for us it makes me want to cringe. When do the ever applaud their parents :p

still I voted for the Shrimpton guy because his kid was so cute

I kinda like the players acknowledging the fans after the match, it feels rather cold when they don't. I guess I just don't like how the Fan of the Year things feels like a popularity contest--it just seems odd to vote on something like this. If the club wants to acknowledge individual supporters, they should go ahead and do so. I just don't see the need for some type of voting campaign on an individual's part. That's not really the point of being a supporter for a team now is it?

Sounds like we're all abstaining or voting for the guy from Norway then. Love the pants on that guy! We'll turn this contest into a statement about pants rather than popularity. Or look at it as support for Brede Hangeland by voting for fellow Norwegian resident Mike Smith.

I put aside his love of the Red Sox and Pats  and voted for Russ. The amount of work he puts into the podcast is worthy of an accolade or two.

I voted for Russ for the same reasons as Joe. Didn't hurt that he lives a few towns over from me as well.
