Ha ha, I love it (sorry Red Sox fans, but there are too many of you and John Henry is a creep and a scouser). I saw the last few innings. I dont follow baseball much these days, but that game reminded me that when your team is in a do or die game that comes down to the wire, there is an anxiety that is hard to rival in all of sports.

    Nice recap here.

I can't seem to escape the collapse on a Fulham messageboard. You're a cruel woman, Mo. The RAys made a deal with the devil.

Doesnt anyone in Boston know how to administer the Heimlich maneuver?

Yes, this makes me happy. But can't really get my head around 'how' this happened.

Funny this though, as the Yankees lost so many games against the Sox and I kept hearing it from friends who like them but guess maybe the Red Sox were focusing too much on that series and forgot all about the teams they needed to face in Sept.

I want it on record Heather that I wasn't going to bring it up (okay Mo beat me to it  ), but those had to be two of the biggest collapses in baseball history (sorry to you and Dtown). Rays down 7-0 in the 8th? Then they have a guy tie it on his first HR since April on the last strike of the 9th?? Mix in the Braves closer not sealing the deal in the 9th w/the lead (bummed on that one since I don't like the Cards) and it was baseball at it's best or heartbreaking worst depending on your viewpoint.

I do feel bad for my fellow Arizona Wildcat, Terry Francona. He probably won''t survive this, but Boston spent $120 million more on their payroll then did Tampa, which makes for an amazing story.

It all started when Buchholz went down for the season in June. The pitching rotation was down to two decent starters, Lester and Beckett. But they were not having dominant seasons. Plus, the bullpen only two reliable pitchers Aceves and Papelbon. So the pitching rotation got taxed a lot towards the end. And they just couldn't stay healthy in the batting rotation either. Youk, Gonzales, and Crawford were all out or playing hurt at one point or another. It's not Francona nor Crawford's (I still think he'll come around next season) fault...it's Epstein for focusing too much on getting some hitters and not pitchers (especially relievers) in the offseason. And Lackey is the worst decision he has ever made.

I am a big Sox fan but I saw this coming long before the collapse. As others have said their weakness has been pitching over and over and over again. They were able to get by with hitting the ball and then that dried up. Crawford as just been awful.Lackey was an awful pick up. And on and on. They need some big changes there and must address starting pitching and the bull pen. Maybe a time for a manager change as well. I would be upset if I had not called this early in the summer. They finished as they started and that is who they were this year plain and simple.

Lackey was a horse for years for my Halos, but lost 5 mph on his fastball his last season here and had a history of pitching poorly at Fenway. Theo is a sharp guy, but that was a horrible signing. Crawford is a shock, he was such a good player in Tampa. Some guys are better when they don't have to live up to the huge contract. Hopefully for his sake he bounces back.

I think Theo Epstein will be gone (Hello Cubbies) but Tito will stay. There has been friction for a long while between Theo and Larry Luchino and I think this will be the end of Theos tenure in Boston. With the injuries to the pitching staff and postion players (not counting JD, "Nancy" Drew!!!) I think Francona will get a break. He is also the most sucessful manager in Sox history and the only manager to bring the team 2 titles and that may play into it.

There is this team in Orange County that thinks this collapse is nothing compared to a certain 1995 collapse that happened to welcome me to the worst run franchise in baseball.

I thought it would be 50-50 but after seeing Tito's press conference yesterday you could tell he was just done. The club house must have been just awful. He was a very sad figure yesterday and did not deserve the blame but he took it. If Theo was mainly responsible for the moronic signings and lack thereof then he needs to go as well. Sad to see Tito so broken down. It seems more and more obvious that they just quit on him. Pathetic.
