We've got to get our 2.17 goals against per match down to around 1.5-1.6 if we're to survive, imo. Fortunately, we've not been cut adrift, so if we can start getting it right now through the end of the season, there's no hole to dig out of and survival is possible. While they appear positive, I'm not seeing enough to address that with these signings.

I swore I wouldn't get sucked into this before Friday...dang midweek matches.

This guy could be the second coming of Pele and it wouldn't turn our season around, as long as we allow so many more shots than we take and give up so many more goals than we get. Our current squad has grown accustomed to playing very poor football - slow buildup, poor crossing, leaky defense - that one new boy cannot be enough to salvage things, I fear.

Over at FoF, there is growing resignation that we won't escape now that we've dropped into the bottom 3, this time the hole is too deep and too few players show the needed determination (and skill) to avoid relegation. Does anyone see three teams that are playing worse than we are right now? Sure, some new blood (and some deadwood-shedding) would stir things up for a while, but overall it just doesn't seem that we're good enough for PL football - weak as it is in the lower half - any more. Let's treasure our memories of the run to Hamburg a few years back, because there's nothing glamorous about the League Championship.

Okay so let me get this straight. We have just signed a defensive midfielder when we have two that have been performing and what we really need is a playmaking midfielder. And now we are bidding for two young prospects when we have loads of promising young prospects that are unproven and have never been through a relegation fight. Help :confusion-helpsos:

Some are saying it's lazy journalism on the Man U youngsters. Somebody has bid for them, but it's not Fulham they're just guessing it is because of Rene's Man U connection.

Announcers in the last Tottenham match said the club told Holtby he is free to go, but they didnt say where. If we sign him that is more like it. He's improved since joining Tottenham. He used to be too busy, getting in the way of other players, but that seems to have improved.

The rumors have been there since yesterday that Holtby might joining Fulham on loan with Berbatov going the other way, but why would Southampton's manager know the deal is complete and announce it? That's just extremely...unusual.

If we signed him and want him to play on Saturday maybe that is how he knows. Maybe informing everyone, especially our opponents is part of the process. Southampton has to pick the squad that will face us after all. I have no idea how it all works but I dont find it surprising he would know. But yes for him to talk about it is surprising. Seems kind of like the tapping up stuff. Until the deal is announced is it really done; could he be jeopardizing the deal for Holtby.

Don't think that would be the way it works. We just need to sign a player 24 hours in advance of the next match for them to be available, so as long as we sign Holtby before noon tomorrow, then he should be available to us. Maybe he does have some inside track info, but to make the comment like it's a given when said player hasn't even had a medical yet is puzzling.

Looks like we've made another bid for Bardsley:

BOO! He's not someone I'd be happy to see go. I'm not sure why Rene has Kasami on the B-team. I like Kaca, but Kasami has been much more productive this season.

The latest is Berbatov off to Monanco and Hughes off to QPR.

Holtby is training with Fulham this morning, so that deal should be confirmed by the club soon. And Taylor from Swansea a possibility.

    Mitroglou should be confirmed too.

There were some Vossen rumors earlier on twitter, but seems unlikely with Trog's confirmation.

I find this disappointing. Burn is good enough. He's better than Smalling was. We either have a very good CB for years to come or we will make some money off him. Senderos is good enough for CB cover.

Evan, you missed the 2 month loan of Dempsey and Stoke sniffing around for Bent.
