Wow, Landon off at the half and then sent home? Is he back on the bad-guy list?

Could you imagine Mexico's reaction to the side we're putting out if they had only drawn against Panama

I guess Jermaine Jones indeed has a knee issue and it wasn't just a Bild Magazine fabrication. Very strange situation for him. He's closing in on his life long goal to play in the World Cup, so does he try to tough it out through next summer?

No Dempsey, Donovan, Jones, both Fabian and Eddie Johnson, Bradley, Howard, Belser...This has loss written all over it.

I was pleased -- and heartily surprised -- to see us win, but I'm heartsick for Panama. They did plenty enough to get to the world cup. This little black duck is rooting for the All Whites against El Tri.

Jozy had a good match, and -- despite what the irritating Scot said -- I thought Diskerud did as well. Perhaps the best player in the US colors was Castillo.

Our weak spot continues to be Right Back. It seems ludicrous to me that Klinsmann is comfortable playing two out-of-position midfielders at RB -- Evans and Bedoya [Bedoya?????] when Eric LIchaj is acquitting himself well in a league that's markedly superior to the MLS. Eric is not 'dolo, but nobody else is either. I find it more and more mysterious that Eric doesn't get a sniff, while players in MLS, Austria, Belgium, and Scandinavia do.

Absolutely extraordinary. There's truly something about this game we love that simply defies logic. In what's essentially a meaningless game for us, we score two in stoppage time to devastate Panama and save our rivals. How can you possibly explain this?

    EDIT:
How about this. Mexican TV commentators reacting to U.S. goal. "We love you forever and ever. God Bless America."

    What an absolutely bizarre night.

I find it very amazing that Mexico needed the USA to bail them out for just a chance at qualification. I mean really? USA, Costa Rica, and Honduras get the automatic qualifying spots and Mexico sneaks in 4th because we beat Panama in the last 2-3 minutes of a game? You're welcome Mexico, glad the US team could bail you out.

    Fantastic pic of Boyd consoling the Panama player, and was proud of our players reaction to the stoppage time goals. I'll let people who actually watch the game (I was stuck w/the El Tri match) comment, but have to relay a little of what the Mexican studio hosts were saying on that great piece Tim posted (dude was talking way to fast for me, but mi esposa was translating);

Besides the obvious gratitude shown towards the US, the main announcer was going both barrels at Mexico; 'don't celebrate too much because you did nothing, they did it for you', 'you were heartless, terrible, embarrassing, but the US saved you', 'who could imagine the US substitutes would be the ones that kept the World Cup hopes alive'. My wife kept laughing because she was shocked how bad the guy was tearing apart his own team.

    Lol.. on all counts!

    - The Klinsmann bashers. Yeah, he has a Mack truck sized ego but for some reason he has put mature and confident teams on the field against some pretty good psychological hurdles. Bradley couldnt assure that and I'm pretty sure Sigi would have had difficulties as well. And I LOVE Sigi.

    - We get some love from south of border until the next time La Raza pols have an input on immigration and entitlements.
Them rooting for US in the actual WC? Well, SURE! Who doesnt want their region to show well against other groups. Folks who root against their own competition are not using their brains.

But I'm not gonna root for or against Mexico against the Kiwis. It'll be interesting.

I was disappointed for Panama. I like both them and Jamaica. I would be a fan of Costa Rica if they werent such whiners.

In terms of Mexico vs NZ, El Tri better get it's act together. I'm not sure I can cheer for the Kiwis or mexico either.
